I use a Yaesu FT-950 HF transceiver and I am currently using indoor dipoles inside my second floor apartment for 40, 20 and 17 meters. Most of the time, I keep my transmit power set to around 30 watts. I was not fully involved with the SSB CQWW DX Contest, but casually gave out a few contacts to contesting stations. I was very thrilled to make contact with amateur radio station JH4UYB in Japan on 40 meter SSB! I was told that he was running 1 KW to a 4 element 40 meter Yagi beam! No wonder I heard him so well and he heard me running 30 watts, then after he asked me for a repeat on the contest exchange information, I temporarily increased my power up to 80 watts.
