| | Siberian Husky (Dog Training) Duration : 73 Seconds For more information bit.ly ========================= Thank you freefoto.com for the use of your pictures Siberian Husky "The Siberian Husky (Russian: Сибирский хаски, Sibirskiy Haski) is a medium-size, dense-coat working dog breed that originated in eastern Siberia. The breed belongs to the Spitz genetic family. It is recognizable by its thickly-furred double coat, sickle tail, erect triangular ears and distinctive markings. An active, energetic and resilient breed whose ancestors came from the extremely cold and harsh environment of the Siberian Arctic and were bred by the Chukchi of Northeastern Asia, it was imported into Alaska during the Nome Gold Rush and spread from there into the United States and Canada, initially as a sled dog. It rapidly acquired the status of a family pet and a show-dog. History ---------- Siberian Huskies are still used occasionally as sled dogs in dogsled racing but have been widely replaced by the more popular Alaskan Husky and hound-type crossbreeds that are specially bred and selected for speed and have less heavy coats. Freight Siberian Huskies were selectively bred to pull a medium load over long distances at a medium pace, and simply can't keep up with their faster counterparts. Siberians are still popular in races restricted to purebreds and are faster than other pure sled dog breeds such as the Samoyed and the slower but much stronger Alaskan Malamute. Today the breed tends to divide along lines of "racing" Siberians versus "show ... | | The Intensity of Long Distance Duration : 147 Seconds We visited the Orlicke mountains in the Czech Republic, which have ideal conditions for dog-sled racing. The championship of the Czech Republic in distance racing has been taking place here for the last few years. This international competition is one of the most difficult in Europe. [Andrea Kucerova, Organizer] The event is well-known all over Europe, we have competitors from nine countries. Two thirds from abroad. Along the ridges of the Orlicke mountains, the route is 222km. It is a four phase, four day race, and is classified as an extreme competition. [Klara Brzkova, Musher]: The women mostly go on the shorter routes, but not many woman go on these other more extreme routes. They are more for men. Klara comes to the races with her father. She has been racing for four years. She came to the race this year for the first time and it wasn´t easy at all. [Klara Brzkova, Musher]: The second day it was truly challenging, it was snowing, windy, foggy. It was hard to see anything at all. The guide dogs didn´t want to be on the icy-ridges. Part of the race also required making a bivouac. [Klara Brzkova, Musher]: To do the bivouac, I had to dig out the holes for the dogs, as they aren´t used to doing it. But in the end only one female dog layed in it. The others got completely covered in snow, and only their heads could be seen. The dogs are usually nervous before the start, but during the race they calm down and are at peace with their own tempo until the finish. [Klara ... Tags :Czech Republic, mountains
