I found some pictures the other day that I have never seen of Rachel as a foal so I decided to share them with you, she is about 3-5 months in these pictures. Now most of you know Rachel Alexandra but if you dont here is abit of a biography of her. Rachel Alexandra (foaled January 29, 2006 in Kentucky) is a retired American Thoroughbred filly racehorse and the 2009 Horse of the Year. She is renowned as the May 16, 2009 winner of the Preakness Stakes, the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the first filly to win the race in 85 years (since Nellie Morse, 1924). She was the impressive winner of races in six states (KY, LA, AR, MD, NY, NJ), on 8 different tracks, against fillies and Grade 1 colts and older horses, achieving a long string of consecutive wins including numerous Grade 1 stakes. Often considered alongside Ruffian as the greatest 3-year old filly in thoroughbred racing history, Rachel Alexandra neared or broke multiple stakes records, track records, and winning margin records throughout her career. A two time Sovereign Award winner as Canadas leading apprentice rider, jockey Chantal Sutherland set her sights on the United States. After success in New York, she is now making her mark on the Southern California circuit. A native of Manitoba, Chantals father Hugh owned horses and as she grew up she began galloping horses for a summer job. After college, she pursued a career as a jockey and hasnt looked back. One of her biggest supporters is trainer Barry Abrams who gave her a leg up on Lightmyfirebaby in the 2008 Irish Obrien Stakes on Santa Anitas downhill turf course. She has also attracted attention off the track. In 2006 she was named on of People Magazines 100 most beautiful people in 2006 and she is currently starring in Animal Planets reality series Jockeys.
