People from different martial arts attended the seminar and more than half of them are instructors and have thier own martial arts academies. Attendance came from Czech Republic, Slovenia, Spain, other than from different parts of Italy. The seminar covered entries, release counters and take-downs in regards to the Kerambit. What is a KERAMBIT? The Kerambit (aka, karambit, korambit) is a small hooked knife with a ring on its handle. Its a traditional close quarter, stealth weapon found most commonly in old silat styles and a few other southeast asian martial arts like several Filipino Kali schools. No matter how a person tries to convince you that the kerambit is an agricultural or DIY tool you cant help but feel and see that its design and function is more for killing then anything else. Based on the design of a tigers claw, a competent practitioner don't just cut any part of the body but aims for the arteries and soft tissues of the body. The kerambit cuts and slices, but its design functions more for tearing and piercing, to inflict maximum damage. But when u are faced with "life and death" situations where your immediate future and the ones you care about are at the balance eg kidnapping intentions, hostage situations, rape, forced to a secondary location or worst; you will have to do what ever it takes to avoid this. One effective way is to stop its escalation by initially gaining control of the weapon. It may be easier said then done but this is just one of the many option that you have. The principle of the gun disarm is by initially trapping the trigger finger and peeling it back towards the attacker breaking or dislocating the finger. No finger, No gun discharge. then redirecting the muzzle to the attacker. The difference between a professional & an untrained person is their trigger finger placement. This technique caters for both. NOTE This is NOT a "fast-food" technique, where you just watch, do it once and expect it to work in real-time. Seni Silat Gayang Lima is an offensive martial arts system of which every move hits the target. This Silat art was inspired to Sayidina Samaon Al-Radzi, an Arab immigrant to Yunan Province in China. Later on it was brought to Malaya (now Malaysia) by Syed Abdul Rahman Al-Yunani in the 19th century. He then taught it to a prominent majistrate of Mersing town in the State of Johore by the name of Awang Daik. Awang Daik named it Gayang Lima . It is also known as Buah Pukul Mersing or Buah Timur.
