Obata Kaiso invited me and Nathan Scott Kyoshi to participate in the filmming of National Geographic's Fight Science. I edited out the weird Tae Kwon Do guy who was throwing the stunt katana around. You'll see me only as the long-haired dude posing and holding the bamboo for Kaiso This one is actually the sequel to the original, which was more focused on hand to hand combat. This episode shows the effectiveness of weapons, ranging from the bo staff... to of course the Japanese sword

The Shinkendo Honbu Dojo takes part in their annual enbu at the Little Tokyo Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival). Obata Kaiso was out of town that weekend in Atlanta (doing a seminar), so senior Honbu student Matthew Lynch Sensei (who also heads the Mashuu Dojo in Van Nuys). Matthew Sensei is always fun to have at the microphone, and the audience responds very well. We also become more relaxed when performing to such an environment. Mike Shu's note: "I edited the demonstration down to fit the Youtube limit of 10 minutes. As a result, we miss the Aikido demo in the beginning as well as some drawing techniques and kata. Apologies to Stephen and Eric for disappearing"

The USC Shinkendo Japanese Swordsmanship group was invited to perform at the cancer "walk-a-thon" style fundraiser on the University of Southern California Campus. We arrived around 6PM, just as it was starting to get dark. Techno music was blaring very loud, so it's filling the background in the first part of the video. When we went up, they played our track. Mike's Notes: "There really wasn't an audience right in front of us, since everybody was either walking, sitting on the side in their tents, or eating dinner in the far side of the field. Thus there wasn't a lot of pressure, we just did our thing. I apologize for the rock band tuning their instruments towards the end of the demo, they most likely didn't know they were on speaker or something... or did they?"

March 15th 2008 - Taken by a home video camera (pardon the shakiness). LMU organizers asked the Honbu dojo to demonstrate. Mike's Notes: Since this was a smaller event, Obata Sensei said it was a good chance for me to lead a demonstration and invite first-time demonstrators to attend. The newcomers were nervous but learned a good deal from the demo. Thanks to Isabelle Krief for videotaping with little to no notice, Seraphina Wong for organizing our demonstration, and all the members of the Shinkendo Honbu Dojo family.
