A very quick edit of some of the stuff I grabbed off HDTV today. About 30 clips chopped up even smaller and edited together with the emphasis on Slow Motion, Close Ups and Cool Angles etc. I included the race results so you can see how it unfolded. There was so much good footage, this was my "QuickPick'. (Got plenty of my own footage and great stills, edit to follow) Couple of editing "Glitches" I only watched it for the first time while it was uploading, but nevermind...:) I saw Adilson Kindlemann crash live on Thursday, I have all his training runs and stills before and after the accident including the rescue, but figured, seeing as it is all over the net, no point putting it up. This video is more about the spectacle that is Red Bull Air Racing :) Copyright, if there is any in this situation, remains with the respective 'owners'. It is obvious where I got it from and I am not claiming it as mine, I just edited it together and includied some of their graphics. Britain's Paul Bonhomme snatched the pole position in Saturday's qualifying for the Red Bull Air Race in London after posting the fastest time on the course over the River Thames in front of 17500 spectators. Hannes Arch of Austria was second and Bonhomme's great rival, American Mike Mangold, took third. Nigel Lamb of Britain was fourth, his best performance of the season.

Nicolas Ivanoff, a Frenchman of Russian and Greek descent, had a mercurial season in 2007. He instantly shot up from the back of the pack in his CAP 232 in mid-season towards the front with his new Extra 300SR but also struggled at times to get a grip on the sensitive new plane, especially in windy conditions. But when the air was calm Ivanoff was a force to be reckoned with -- as he so convincingly demonstrated with his scintillating victory in the final race of the season in Perth. www.redbullairrace.com

The USS Midway CVB-41 has dropped its anchor permanently in front of the San Diego skyline. The decommissioned aircraft carrier has been turned into an impressive museum that draws huge crowds in San Diego Bay but as part of the activities leading up to the Red Bull Air Race in San Diego 2007 the Midway was briefly put back into service of sorts -- used as a temporary runway. Red Bull Air Race pilot Kirby Chambliss (USA) took advantage of the opportunity to take off from the aircraft carrier's flight deck in his Edge 540 out of the bay towards the race track. While the USS Midway had a top speed of 33 knots, the Red Bull Air Race planes used by Chambliss and his rivals can hit up to speeds of 400 km/h (250 mph). "It was an interesting experience," said Chambliss, adding he did not have nor need the slingshot that fighter planes use to get aloft. "There was plenty of room. The flight deck was about 780 feet long and I got right up with about 150 feet to spare." redbullairrace.com

Austrias Hannes Arch collected the first point of the 2009 Red Bull Air Race World Championship by recording the fastest time in Qualifying on Friday ahead of Saturdays season-opener in Abu Dhabi. The defending champion beat Britains Paul Bonhomme into second and Frances Nicolas Ivanoff to third in a thrill-filled Qualifying battle over the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf. There were an extraordinary number of pylon hits on a blazing hot and windy afternoon along the shores of the capital city of the United Arab Emirates as the 15 pilots in the largest and most competitive field in the races history explored the limits for faster timings. Arch, who had been struggling under the weight of high expectations with modest times training sessions this week, was lying back in only fifth place after the first Qualifying session before opening the throttle on his Edge 540 and clocking a sensational time of 1:26.33. Arch flew nearly six seconds faster through in Q2 and established himself as the favourite to win first place and the 12 points up for grabs on Saturday.
