Liuhebafa Water Boxing part 1
Duration : 782 Seconds

Liu He Ba Fa or Water Boxing. According to legend, Taoist sage known as Chen Tuan (Chen Xi Yi) who is given credit for developing Liu He Ba Fa was retiring for life to Hua Shan where he stayed without having actually taught the style to anyone. Generations later one Li Dong Feng, having heard about the Taoist sage, found Chen's cave and in it the manuscripts outlining the method of LHBF. After years of studying and practicing the secrets contained in the writings he began to teach his own students. By now the style had become complex and varied. Among its components was the Water Boxing hand set of 64 movements, the Dragon/Tiger in Combat, the Jade and River Sword, the wooden ball, the staff and a form of partner training like Push Hands. The Liuhebafa was taught in the late 1930s openly for the first time in Shanghai and Nanjing by Wu Yihui (1887--1958). It is said he had learned the art from three teachers: Yan Guoxing, Chen Guangdi, and Chen Helu. Chan Yik Yan (Chen Yi Ren) 1909-1982 was Master Wu Yihui's most accomplished student. Although Wu Yi Hui taught many students, it's only Chan Yik Yan who is the ONLY known student of Master Wu Yi Hui to have completed the entire Liuhebafa system. Master Chan Yik Yan taught Liuhebafa in Hong Kong and Singapore. Although he instructed numerous students Master Chan Yik Yan was known to have only accepted 6 Disciples into the Liuhebafa lineage. I have collected a few of the many different Liuhebafa demonstrations on youtube ...

LiuHeBaFa Ball Exercise
Duration : 509 Seconds

LiuHeBaFa or "Six Combinations and Eight Methods" Boxing or "Water Boxing" uses this unique training method. This is practiced to connect the tan tien with the ball so that the whole body works as a single unit. And it is useful for learning how to use a small circle to deflect attacks from the ball, redirect the energy and to return power to the ball. Be sure to keep your feet well rooted so that the power flows down from tan tien into ground and up from ground into ball. If you use a bowling ball be sure not to use too much muscle power because the idea is to develop your chi and sensitivity and not your muscles. Even with a heavy weight like a bowling ball, one must learn to "deflect a thousands pounds with just four ounces". So, relax as you practice and don't use force.

Xinyi LiuHeBaFa Quan by Johnson Lee Chan in Manila Metropolitan Theater Martial Arts Exhibition 1993
Duration : 512 Seconds

Johnson performed this Liuhebafa dance in Metropolitan Theater during the 1993 Metro Manila Martial Arts Exhibition - Philippines! Johnson's father, Master David Chan, said that Johnson completed it 96% perfect! I use this video to guide me when I need to correct myself, especially after a long time of not doing the dance. Liuhebafa Quan is the Essence of the Internal Arts. It is the oldest known recorded internal martial art, approximately 2000 years or older, depending on some researchers and archaeologists. The Liuhebafa Quan has around 500 moves, and not one move repeats itself except for the right and left hand. Many internal arts today like Tai Chi, Ba Qua, and Xingyi, all come from Liuhebafa Quan. Liuhebafa Quan is the last of the closed door arts. Luckily, our Liuhebafa Quan lineage, coming from Great Grandmaster's Wu Yi Hui and Chan Yik Yan, is a very martial one. Our group is the only one I am aware of who knows the true form, in the Philippines. 8-) For Inquiries: www.XinyiMeditation.com JRRodriguezIV@XinyiMeditation.com
