He uses a Flexifoil Blade 8.5m kite with handles. The video starts with Billy sitting in the kite buggy. On his first and only run, a freak gust sends him 20ft straight up then backwards about 60m down the beach. Heroically, he doesn't hesitate in throwing the 8.5m into a kite loop. Incredibly, he initiates the second loop before landing. To loop an 8.5m almost twice airborne is a crazy prospect. Thankfully he lands feet first and all is well, but it shook him up just a bit.

First and second run with the trailer/tandem setup. I was using a 'tie rod' type of bolt with no nylocks....needless to say, five minutes of bouncing around in the paddock saw the nuts come loose and eventually off with not much left of the thread. Replaced that with a 12mm Gal Eyebolt and nylock on the inside - seems nice and strong. Put the eye over a bolt attached to the trailer with some wide washers and a small piece of garden hose to eliminate some slack. The only thing left to rattle loose is the wingnut on the top of the bolt. But the passenger can keep an eye on that one! I was a little concerned about the wheel nuts working loose so I put a 20mm nylocks on those too. And boy, 20mm nylocks take a bit of 'doing up' - they won't be coming loose anytime soon. Put some alloy tube inserts in the end of the axle to stop the alloy crushing when I tighten those bolts. Big test will be on the beach with passengers at the start of November at Speed Week 2011. Hopefully some nice vid then....

Finally got some decent wheels for the buggy, so I went down to Torquay on the Victorian coast to test 'em out. Torquay is a very popular summer destination and it's not uncommon for the beach to be wall to wall people. Fortunately, the combination of a weekday and overcast conditions made for a quiet beach. Nearly cleaned up a couple of seagulls though! Wind was 12-16knots with a few higher gusts. Kite was an Ozone 4m Method. GoPro HD on the 'stick' and Hero 2 on the head and short handle - the hero 2 has better contrast, is sharper and takes a better pic in low light although I think there's a tad more distortion in the lens...

2 Pedestrians, 3 Sooty Oystercatchers, 7km of wide, flat beach on sunset with a full moon rising 10 minutes after sunset. A really nice run out to the point. Sandy Point is located 2 hours south east of Melbourne, Australia.

Two heavy weeks for the Crab-Buggy team who crossed France from South to North by car, before leaping to England. Beauduc, Saint-Georges, Quiberon, le Mont Saint Michel, Berck, Hardelot, les Hemmes, and Wallop in England. This was the occasion to discover by Crab some of the best French spots, meet wise and friendly people, and to bring back cool shots, in particular, double pilot action.
