Too often throwing has left me bitter and broken. I train for hours on end and it feels like I never get anywhere. Those are the words that describe my throwing the most. I could tell to you in detail how something in each year over the last 6 years of throwing has destroyed and broken my heart. Maybe it's because I care too much or because I'm overly sensitive, but regardless of the reason it's real, the pain is real and I end up broken. Am I the only one that feels this way? Am I the only person to drudge through the pain of failure and disappointment? The things of this world have yet to satisfy my soul, nothing completes me, and nothing leaves me content. There is one place I can turn where my soul is free from burden and pain. There is only one place where in the midst of pain there is hope, joy, and freedom, and it's in the arms of Jesus Christ. This world promises me fulfillment, but it always leaves me broken and bitter. And throwing by itself is no different; it promises me fulfillment if I get that PR or do well at nationals, but it always leaves me wanting. I am tired of trusting in my own efforts... I never come through, I'm never good enough and there is always something I could have done better. But Christ welcomes me as I am, as a broken mess, and to be honest, it's in Christ where I want to be. This is the 2009 Deaflympics, and we have track and field events, here. Theres the men, mens Decathlon going on, also the ladies Javelin toss, and weve got the mens Triple Jump. So, well take a look around and see whats happening with these events. The brand new Taipei Stadium, and they just finished this, maybe 8 months ago. And, uh, seats about 35000 people, at this stadium. Its actually very nice—well laid-out stadium. Here for the Deaflympics they have it decorated in kind of an Aboriginal motif to welcome all of the Deaflympians here to Taiwan. And, uh, weve got the Javelin toss—its actually part of, the uh,--uh, I think thats womens Javelin toss going on down there. And weve got the high jump happening down at that end—which is actually part of the mens Decathlon. Oh!—we havent seen many successful jumps. Thats actually the, uh, Olympic flame—the Deaflympic flame up there. Its been burning up top of the tower. Thats a big drum right below that—they used that drum during the Opening Ceremonies. 24.07.1976 Montreal Olympic Games, Athletics, Men and Women (24.07.1976 - part 1 of 2). Men: 400 metres Hurdles, Shot Put, 100 metres. Women: Javelin Throw, 800 metres. Great history of sport. Soviet comment. Results - www.sports-reference.com and www.todor66.com The 1976 Olympics were hampered by a boycott by African nations, in response to the New Zealand rugby team having recent toured South Africa. Though it was argued that rugby was not an Olympic sport, it failed to satisfy African sports leaders. The biggest loss in the competition from the boycott came in the 1500 metres where Tanzania's Filbert Bayi was co-favorite with New Zealander John Walker. But their great battle never materialized and Walker won the gold medal relatively easily. In the 400 hurdles, the defending champion was Uganda's John Akii-Bua who was in top form. His competition was to come from an American newcomer, Edwin Moses, who won the gold medal and would eventually become the greatest ever at that discipline. But sadly these two great athletes never met on the track. Three athletes won doubles in 1976: Cuba's Alberto Juantorena became the first ever to win the 400/800 (save 1906); Lasse Virén again won the 5000/10000 distance races; and the Soviets Tatyana Kazankina won the 800 and 1500 metres for women. 2010 Wind Rider Challenge Ivy Schexnayder Midwest Horse Fair Madison, Wisconsin Here is our run during the first day of preliminaries. The course consists of 10 elements each worth 5 points. There are four judges, allowing for a total score of 200 points. You take your first run. Once you finish, you choose one thing to work on for three minutes with Bob, and then do your run one more time. You then must choose which score you want to keep, the one from the first or second run, without knowing which was better. The elements: 1. Left canter depart from halt 2. Simple or flying lead change in center 3. Lope over pole on right lead 4. Halt in cones 5. Open and close gate 6. Walk over bridge 7. Trot, jump, trot 8. Side pass right angle poles 9.
