This is koryuu iaido which means old school iaido, of the muso jikiden eishinryuu school, so if you practice iaido, don't use this video as a tutorial, but as a general reference to some universal iaido rules ;) This is the reason you ll notice that chiburi is called chiburui here (I think). Iaido, the Japanese sword art, by iaido and aikido instructor Stefan Stenudd, 6 dan Aikikai. I do a number of iaido forms, from different iaido schools and also some of my own invention (I know that is contrary to tradition). I can't say that I'm totally pleased with what I see. My posture needs improvement, my cuts are insufficiently extended forward, I do an extra thing with the saya before noto, and so on. Well, well... things to work on. Here is a demonstration of iaido, the Japanese sword art, by Tomas Ohlsson from our dojo Enighet, held in 2004 on a Samurai exhibition at a museum in Malmo, Sweden. Tomas is very accomplished at iaido. He has won several medals in Swedish and European Iaido Championships. I was his first teacher of iaido, and I was quite proud to see him grow out of the need of my instructions. I made the filming and the cutting. It looks like a two camera filming, but was actually shot at two separate demonstrations. Tomas repeated the demonstration every hour, so I filmed it twice, from different angles. He changed his program somewhat between the shows,so some forms (kata) I only had from one angle. He was doing several Seitei iai forms, and also some ko-ryu. I finished second for the second time in Aichi, this time in the 4th Dan division. This was the Aichi Iaido Tournament held on March 27th, 2011. I have now gone bronze-bronze-silver-silver at the last four Aichi Iaido Tournaments and while unable to improve my placing this time, I am pleased I didn't drop out of the medals completely. A huge thank you to all of my friends, family and of course my Sensei and fellow dojo members. I couldn't have done it without you.

In this his third woks on Iaido, the art of unsheathing the Japanese sword, Master Sueyoshi Akeshi uncovers for us methods of training special and new techniques, which on this particular occasion are nearer to the ancient forms of the style. We will study the training for the development of sensibility and balance with "Pyon-Pyon"(spring boots) and with Getta,the traditional Japanese footwear, as well as new stretching exercises. We will analyze new Kumi-Dachi, Tomoenuki and their variants techniques for use against two opponents; Haia-Nuke or fast unsheathing; the Idari Wuki or work with the left side of the body to correct the imbalances and strengthen the normal unsheathinng; and surprising exercices to improve the notions of distance and speed, like the one where you drop a banana and then with the same hand unsheathe...and cut it before it gets to the floor!Definitely a great videotape that will excite all those who are lovers of the Japanese sword.
