It's fiction. For a long time we were asking our selves why the internet did not have any videos of freediving as an emotional experience - something like 'Le Grand Bleu' by Luc Besson. Every clip on YouTube had something to do with a stop watch or a long rope. Suddenly Guillaume Nery and Julie Gautier emerged with their film 'Free Fall'. Their film managed to show freediving from a totally new perspective and give the world something never seen before. To us Guillaume Nery and Julie Gautier's 'Free Fall' have started a new short film genre from a freediver's perspective. We wish to contribute to this genre with our film. 'WEIGHTLESS -- Emotional Freediving' is filmed in Dahab, Egypt, January-February 2011 on three different locations. The five hours of footage has been shot solely on breath hold. On Saturday the 21th of May BonPhoto organized its second freediving event. Many gathered on the beach at Playa Frans, where people could learn about freediving during a free presentation that was given by an Apnea Academy instructor. After all questions were answered most people went into the water to apply newly acquired knowledge and techniques. There was free snorkel gear to use for those that did not have their own. In between dives, people enjoyed the beach of Playa Frans and snacks from the BBQ that was lit around noon. On our previous event we experienced that late afternoon, between 4pm and 6pm, is the best time to spot lionfish, as they tend to come out of their hideouts when there is less light on the reef. Just after 4.00 we entered the water with a big group of freedivers to go out and find the invasive fish which where caught and brought to shore by support boat to prepare them for the BBQ. We were able to remove about 50 lionfish from the reef. Thanks to all of you that joined for making this day such a success and hope to see all of you on our next event which will be announced soon. This is the story about my recent freediving/spearfishing trip in Isla Mujeres. I blacked out in about 5 feet of water after diving to 70ft to spear a fish. My dive partner and guide saved my life by pulling me to the surface seconds after I blacked out. I've heard of shallow water blackout but never thought it would happen to me. I learned a great lesson of safety in this sport and I'm so thankful that Jesus was watching over me. If you ever freedive, never take your eyes of your partner. Thank you Valente and Ramon for saving my life and for teaching me so many things on the trip.
