Fencing is a sport that is relatively unknown in the country although it has featured in every modern olympiad. In Kenya, it is practised by few, but is yet to be affiliated to the National Olympic Committee , the body in charge of Olympic teams in the country. Maureen Mwende visited a fencing academy in Uthiru, on the outskirts of Nairobi, teaching young fencer... and brings us the story of a sport that is struggling to make its mark whilst trying to nurture future olympian.

The University of Oregon's fencing club features skill levels from beginners to advanced fencers. Though a lesser well-known sport here on campus, the fencing club competes in annual tournaments and welcomes all who are willing to come and try out this "European martial art".

Fencing Masters: Kick-off to London 2012 is a competition between the 2012 US Olympic fencing team and some of the best fencers from around the world right before they leave for the Games. The event is the largest (non-Olympic) spectator fencing tournament in modern US history, the only televised US fencing competition and a celebration of fencing's history, honor, and athleticism. It will be a night of top-caliber fencing, entertainment, dinner, drinks, special tributes, and above all, fun and excitement for the whole family. If you've never seen fencing or are already an avid fan, this is an evening you won't want to miss! HISTORY Fencing Masters NYC was founded by US Olympian Tim Morehouse in conjunction with WCMG Events along with co-chairs Daria Schneider and Kathleen Reckling. The mission is to promote the sport of fencing by bringing together Olympic-level athletes in highly produced theater held competitions that are aired on television. The first Fencing Masters was held on Nov. 17, 2010 at Hammerstein Ballroom, had 1800 attendees, included Olympians past and present, was televised on SportsNet NY and provided $25,0000 worth of grants for Olympic hopefuls.

Behind the bullet, the tip of a fencing blade is the second fastest-moving object in Olympic sports. Speed of Fencing captures the grace and movements of New York's top epee fencers. Using high-speed photography, amateur spectators will be able to see some of the fastest actions in all of sport for the first time. For the untrained eye, a flick scores without notice. Body signals and feints are too acute for a novice. And what happens when someone blinks at the wrong moment? Fencing has some of the fastest moving objects in sport, which is arguably why it is hard to watch and not spectator friendly. All of these actions will be realized in slow motion with high-speed photography to allow the viewer to appreciate and see what happens in the mind of a trained fencer. These actions appear slower to show the speed in which the mind is calculating each action from years of training and repetition. Sport Kenjitsu, aka Sports Chanbara or "Spochan" for short, is a Japanese fencing sport which utilizes a padded sword & light protective equipment. Spochan's organizing body, the International Sports Chanbara Association, has been a member of the Japan Recreation Association since 1995 & has its honbu (headquarters) located in Yokohama City, Japan. Instructor Thomas Urso has been teaching this course at Clemson since 2007.
