| | Applied Eskrima, Beginners Basic Strikes Duration : 541 Seconds I am showing how a beginner learns our system. I want to explain first why we do vertical defense and the strikes are horizontal. The strikes are horizontal so that the learning will be a lot faster, but in real scenarios it can be at any angle you want. The bottom line for me in teaching Eskrima, is not really how to fight using a stick, but in a much bigger picture, like how you become a much improve martial arts practitioner using all parts of your body. Training in martial arts will make you a much healthier person as well and more disciplined ! Eskrima is a complete martial arts, meaning it is not only about the sticks. Practicing with sticks will improve your reflexes, like you never imagined before! Learning how to use the stick or olisi is just but one part of Eskrima. In advance stages of Eskrima, you will learn how to use bladed weapons and empty hands applications( hands, elbows, knee kicks, foot kicks, grappling, head butts and even biting) after all , Eskrima was a tool for survival by the Filipinos. To survive means, to use whatever means necessary to stay alive... | | Eskrima w/ Kali Sticks Conditioning/Practice by Tuan Tran Duration : 433 Seconds Train with me online at myhitechtrainer.com Hey everyone, Tuan here with another video on things I like to do with it comes to conditioning. Eskrima or escrima refers to a class of Filipino martial arts that emphasize weapon-based fighting with the stick, staff or knife. Alternative terms which have entered into common usage include kali and arnis. Eskrima and arnis are the most common among the many names often used in the Philippines today to refer to these arts. The teaching of the basic skills in eskrima are traditionally simplified. With limited time to teach intricate moves, only techniques that were proven effective in battle and could easily be taught en masse were used. This allowed villagers, generally not professional soldiers, a measure of protection against other villages, as well as foreign invaders. This philosophy of simplicity is still used today and is the underlying base of eskrima. Because of this approach, eskrima and the Filipino martial arts in general are often mistakenly considered to be "simple". However, this refers only to its systematization, not effectiveness. To the contrary, beyond the basic skills lies a very complex structure and a refined skillset that takes years to master. | | The Human Weapon: Eskrima Disarm Duration : 24 Seconds PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SUBSCRIBE! Eskrima (or Escrima), a fighting style indigenous to the Philippines, is believed to have evolved from Chinese, Malaysian and Indonesian martial arts forms brought to the islands by South China Sea traders around the 2nd century. It is a mostly weapons-based fighting style that combines punches, kicks, takedowns and joint lock techniques with stick and sword or knife fighting techniques. Eskrima was first introduced to the non-Filipino world in 1521, when Spanish explorers led by Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the South China Sea to stake their claim on the Philippine islands. Soon after the invasion, Magellan himself was killed on the small island of Mactan by native resisters armed with hardened sticks and led by the islands chief, Lapu-Lapu. Spain eventually gained control of the Philippines and outlawed all indigenous martial arts. Over the next several centuries, many fighters continued their practice in secret, by disguising Eskrima techniques in what they pretended were ceremonial dance-like rituals. The ban was lifted after 1898, when the United States won control of the Philippines from Spain, but an air of secrecy remained around Eskrima and its practitioners. During World War II, Filipino fighters used the stick-and-sword techniques to resist Japanese invaders, compensating for a lack of firearms with powerful, swift movements of their sticks and knives. By the 1970s, however, organizations such as the Doce Pares association and ...
