This is how I have my canoe setup when I'm on the water and have my dog Maddy (aka The Goose!) along for the trip. Not only do dogs make for wonderful traveling companions, they also put some weight where you need it when solo tripping.

Mountain Climbing with unknown, funny dog in Maupiti. Met with friendly dog who led me full speed all the way up and then back down. Biked to trail start from Pension Tautiare. Dogness needs some surgery. Many have asked about TNP "dogness," Allie the Mountain Dog and how she's doing. I Tweeted that she has possible knee issues and needs an expensive surgery. I consulted with two veterinarians and this vid shows our visit with the second and the results the x-rays I had taken. I will use him and his associated surgeon to do the work. I was really worried she had developed hip dysplasia. We discuss the findings on that here and it seems to be good news. She is able to walk and hike at walking speeds without any problems but her running regime has been on hold for over two months as I tried to detect improvement. Nope, she needs fixin'. Her surgery will be scheduled soon and hopefully get her back to 100%. She is a an adventure veteran in TNP and within our family, having gone on many hardcore adventures and outings. We're keeping fingers crossed that we find exactly what's wrong and fix it.////////////////////Note: Many TNPrs contributed generously to Allie's surgery and we are grateful and humbled by your concern for her and helping us. Having some time to take Ace out on a few hikes I want to share a set-up for Ace's Dog Pack from Wolf Packs. It a great bag that I have set up for a good day hike or overnight out in the woods. The main purpose of the pack if for Ace to carry his own food, water, and toys, but I have also placed some medical kits as well. - Adam

Was in the hills testing the new ruffwear backpack for my dog Mali, she's a great mix German sheppard/Labrador of 3yo. I made this video to give you a quick view of the way this great backpack worked for her so you can decide if it's the kind of pack your dog need etc ! I also have a bulkier pack for her but this one is amazing for a day hike when she can run as much as she wants ! Mali didn't have any issues running , jumping, and doing all the crazy stuff dogs love to do :) The singletrack has 2 bladers of 0.5L each , and other pochets to put small toys etc. It's also solid and well made , no worries even after she ran in the bushes, went in water and roll in the dirt :D The orange color and reflective lines on the pack are working amazingly well to see your dog even in the bush , i was surprised how good it work in shaddow areas, and in the tall grass, verry usefull to spot your dog :P For info i'm not affiliated with Ruffwear in any way, i just think their product is awesome, and my dog does too so i wanted to share these infos with all the dogs and outdoors lovers out there ;) ! Leave the push-button world behind and come on along for a Nutnfancy backpacking trip. It seems like it's always a sacrifice to peel away from the world and make it out to my wilderness places. Messages pile up, phones go unanswered, emails fill the inbox, and careers are put aside for awhile. But it's always worth it and it creates one of those special memorable experiences. I do my best in this series to share it with you. As I mention in many of my vids, a wilderness backpacking adventure is one of my top recommended ways to make memories with your friends and family, instill wilderness confidence, learn about your gear (and yourself), and to "depussify" your children. That's because it's hard work and requires planning and lots of effort. Here we hike in about 7 miles on what soon becomes a snow covered, hidden trail. As shown, wading and post holing through 4 foot snow banks will wear you out, especially at high elevations. The upside to to this difficulty was the complete isolation we quickly achieved on this trip; we saw no one else in the three days we were up there and we owned the basin (though in warmer days this is a very high use area). With a steady but deliberate pace we reach a gorgeous high mountain lake, still partially frozen from the long winter. It is serene and beautiful.
