They may have over reliance on their fitness levels, their LCBs, and their gear. Conditions change rapidly and can pose lethal threats in high alpine environments. In this Nutnfancy backpack adventure with friend "Cr0cket20," you will see how we divorce ourselves from ego to make the right call at about 10000 ft elevation on an icy, foggy, and sleet driven glacier. I try to be ready for about any alpine emergency, carried within my Kelty SuperTioga backpack. But good gear preparation is actually just a small part of the equation. It can't and won't compensate for poor judgement and foolishness. As shown in this adventure series, despite excellent rain gear and insulation, in these sleeting and drenching conditions it is impossible to stay dry while on the slope. Core temperatures can plummet rapidly. This consideration along with occasional zero-zero visibility conditions, our tiredness levels while on the steep slope, the passing storms (thunder and lighting too), lack of crampons and ice gear, and approaching darkness made my decision clear as the "Expedition Leader" to change our plans and get out of there. This video is from the alien encounter of Dr Reed (Dr Jonathan Reed or John Rutter) which took place in October of 1996. As Rutter (Dr Reed) explained, his alien encounter originated in the Cascade Mountains east of Seattle near Snoqualmie Pass. While still in the mountains, Rutter came across the creature by accident while he and his dog were hiking in the forest. For unknown reasons his dog apparently attacked the creature. The creature, in reaction to the dog attacking it, began to defend itself. Rutter, seeing his dog was losing the battle with the creature, picked up a large tree branch and struck the creature in the head. Thinking he had killed it - he eventually ended up bringing the creature home. He later conducted and filmed an examination of it in his living room. After later reviewing the video, it was discovered that the creature had in fact been conscious while Rutter was filming - as you can see the creature blinking several times during the video. This is a portion of that video - which is perhaps the most compelling and astounding of all of his evidence. Today's recipe for adventure: one female black lab, four to five feet of snow with more falling, a good shoeshoe hike in and out, knife and axe testing while setting up a survival shelter, and snowy firemaking in a remote area high in the Rocky Mountains! Taking place again in the "Nutnfancy Knife Clinic" (hey we haven't been here in awhile), the solitude we achieve in this winter wonderland is breath taking. But the work sure wasn't! Making a survival camp a reality in these conditions takes a lot work (hard to appreciate really until you do it!). Allie and I simulate a stuck-out survival situation in these harsh conditions and set up a survival campsite (using the portable Coghlans® brand orange plastic tube tent). This scenario was realistic and provided good gear testing opportunities. As I've done before, I show a lot of the work necessary to find and process standing deadwood into useable dry firewood with sharp edges that ignite more readily. We fall several dead trees in the process with the Cold Steel Trail Boss axe, Norse Tomahawk (very good performance for weight), and Sawvivor backpack saw and split a few other blades too (like the Dow Coated 3400A Ontario RAT-7 knife shown!). Some may say thinner wood could be used to build a fire but usually it is rain and moisture soaked therefore is an ureliable fire STARTING source. I took my 4 year old son and my 4 1/2 month old dog hiking today at the North Country Trail near Sturgeon Bay in Northern MIchigan. It was a beautiful day but really cold! About 27 degrees. I am proud of my boys...they handled a 2 mile hike very nice. It helped that the trees were marked with blue paint so you could stay on the trail. My son called them "BLUE CLUES"...lol....sorry for the shaking camera the trail was uneven. Ignore my gum chewing too if you please....

Linc and Shark have been backpacking together ever since they were in their early teens. The third highest in Southern California is Mount Baldy. The time had finally come to get to the top of that one to complete the big three. With several thousand feet in vertical gain done on this day's hike, we had our work cut out for us. But the scenery and the specialness of the experience gives just reward. This hike is amazingly beautiful, traversing many quaking aspens, waterfalls, wild flowers of all kinds, conifers, montane forests, subalpine and alpine zones, and arriving in high altitude talus and rocky slopes above the tree line. My hiking companions once again on this Nutnfancy Backpacking Adventure are LastSuspect, my son, and Allie the Mountain Dog, our trained female black lab. Both hike strong without complaint which makes the hike fun. I include lots of hiking footage in Actual Part 1 to show both the work required and the wondrous scenery. Of particular beauty were the waterfalls and run off streams we crossed. But I don't let the scenery distract us from potentially dangerous portions of the climb. At one point in the trail, a snowy chasm above a stream that has eroded a tunnel underneath the snow field. This snow patch, the mountain, tunnel, and stream plunge steeply downslope with jagged rocks as a floor and a 2 ft high ceiling. If someone slipped underneath the snow slab into that tunnel, it would be a difficult rescue and hypothermia would set it in quickly. We navigate this section carefully and actually Suspect needs a fast helping hand there when he falls. We reach the high mountain basins and it feels good to find our mountain goats friends not too far off. I weigh on what I feel ...

In Loving Memory of our Golden Retriever Dog Sunshine who was with us for 11 1/2 years. Sunshine was a special friend in our lives, he went everywhere with us. We planned our vacations around him. We would always say where was the best place to take a dog. Hiking was one of his favorite things to do with us. We spent alot of vacations on the Oregon Coast and many camping trips that included water to swim in. The snow was another favorite of his so we took many vacations in the winter as well. We used to go fishing to entertain our dog we would say. He loved to watch us cast the line into the water and made it almost impossible to fish, but we always had a great time. He filled our lives with so much joy. Sunshine we will always miss you.! The very last photo in this video where he is holding his stuffed animal is one of the last that I took. We pulled out the barbeque to cook up steak which was another of his favorite things because he knew he got to get some and lick the plates. He passed shortly after. I buried the toy with him, it was the last stuffed animal I bought him. John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, (Jesus) that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
