Howdy martial artists, fitness, and performance enthusiasts. I just wanted to share a video clip of the Filipino grappling art I have been studying for more than 10 years from my teacher, Guro Abon Baet. I have been practicing martial arts for over 20 years, and I have never really seen an authentic Filipino grappling system from any Filipino martial arts that I have researched. Most FMA either borrowed from Indonesian silat, Japanese judo, jujitsu, or more hybrid form borrowed from Brazilian jiu jitsu. Sure grappling is grappling, and basic positions are universal like the guard, side postion, and the mount position. I can also see how some of the eastern arts influenced the islanders of the Philippines. Most of our ancestors came from all these parts of Asia after all. The art of Buno, however came from the Mangyan and Aeta tribes in the Philippines. These tribes are one of the earliest indian tribes that settled in the Philippine islands. In fact, the very name Mangyan literally means "the original". My teachers father, Grand Master Felipe "Garimot" Baet learned the art of Buno from the Mangyan tribe, and was known as the "King of Seven Mountains" in Luzon island. Buno has seven basic fighting postures: (water) buffalo, scorpio, crocodile, frog, horse-mounted, tiger, and monkey. Aircraft operated from VQ-1 @ NAS Agana Guam from May 1960 until its departure to VQ-2 NAVSTA Rota, Spain in 1989, the aircraft operated at VQ-2 from 1989 till 1990. It was placed in preservation in a humidity controlled bag at VQ-2 until it was removed and placed as a display aircraft at the CDR Duam Rota BOQ in 1991. In 2003 the aircraft was moved to the side wing of the BOQ to make room for a new parking lot. In 2007 the base CO requested that the aircraft be removed and sent back to the USA, the aircraft was again craned and moved back to the VQ-2 hangar for prep for shipment back to the USA via space A on a USS. In April 2009 the aircraft was towed to the Rota pier where she was craned onboard the USS Wasp for shipment back to the USA. She has arrived in Norfolk VA. and is sitting on the flight line waiting to be shipped to her new home at the USS Alabama Military Park.
