This series of drills is designed to develop improved long jump take off mechanics and technique. The skipping drills allow the long jumper to focus on the correct placement of the foot in a take off contact with the heel leading. The second drills take these skipping drills into a long jump take off. The drills shown should be done off both feet to develop coordination and ensure both legs are conditioned in the same manner. A short film clip showing a young female long jumper coming in from 6 strides utilizing a stride jump. We were working on 'shaping' the movement. We didn't use a take-off board just a take-off after 6 strides. She was asked to ensure that the take-off leg was extended at the moment of lift. I wanted her to land in a semi-squat position in the sand. The drill wasn't about the landing. We'll work on this aspect in a few weeks.
