Nestled in a mountain setting, Interlaken lies between lakes Thun & Brienz. Nearby Grindelwald is is in the heart of an area rich with agriculture, producing Switzerland's fine dairy products like cheese & chocolate. The alpine setting gives it a touristy feel, and skiers & hikers find the town a paradise with its proximity to mountains & trees. Mürren is a good starting point for mountain biking, popular here in the Alps. Small service roads and well-marked intersections make biking easy. Follow Rick on his loop trip down into the valley floor where he passes through Lauterbrunnen, Trümmelbach Falls, a cozy campground, and takes a funicular ride back up the mountain. Our day trip on the Thunersee aboard the Bluemlisalp paddle boat with a quick stop in Interlaken. This steam paddle wheel boat was originally built in 1905 and restored in recent years to its old glory. It's really beautiful inside as well with an old-fashioned looking restaurant, bar, lots of deck seating and of course the old engine which you can watch. The Dents-Du-Midi Mountain Range is located two hours outside of Geneva above the small village of Les Cerniers. Here an eco-friendly company has erected a series of white pods at the foot of the mountain which are removed at the end of the season. In contrast to most ski resorts which leave a scar on the mountains, this is way to really enjoy the mountains in peace without damaging the environment.
