German Wanderlust "Saxon Switzerland" 1/2
Duration : 898 Seconds

Julia Bradbury takes her boots and backpack to the Continent to explore the landscape of Germany and the cultural movement that made it famous - Romanticism. The Germans enjoy a relationship with walking that has lasted over 200 years. The exploration of their landscape has inspired music, literature and art, and Romanticism has even helped shape the modern German nation, as Julia discovers. By walking in four very different parts of Germany, she explores river valleys, coastlines, mountains and gorges, following in the footsteps of Richard Wagner, Caspar David Friedrich, Johannes Brahms as well as British Romantics like William Turner and Lord Byron. This is Julia's chance to discover her own sense of wanderlust. Julia's final adventure takes her deep into the former East Germany. Saxony is a largely unknown destination for UK walkers, but, as Julia discovers, it contains some remarkable landscape. The sandstone mountains, set alongside the mighty Elbe river, are a bizarre mix of forest, gorge and rock towers. Two hundred years ago, they were the focal point for a rush of Romantic artists filled with a new desire to explore landscape for themselves. The wonder of local nature has been attracting visitors ever since.

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich
Duration : 85 Seconds

ETH Zurich was founded in 1854 by the Swiss Confederation and opened its doors in 1855 as a polytechnic institute (Eidgenössische Polytechnische Schule). It comprised in the beginning six departments: architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, forestry, and a catch-all department for mathematics, natural sciences, literature, and social and political sciences. ETH is a federal institute (ie, under direct administration by the Swiss government), whereas the University of Zurich is a cantonal institution. The decision for a new federal university was heavily disputed at the time, because the liberals pressed for a "federal university", while the conservative forces wanted all universities to remain under cantonal control, with the goal of giving liberal thoughts no refuge. In the beginning, both universities were colocated in the buildings of the University of Zurich. In 1909, the course program of ETH was restructured to that of a real university, from its early, very schoolish agenda, and ETH was granted the right to award doctorates. In 1911, it was given its current name, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule. In 1924, another reorganization structured the university in 12 departments. However, it now has 16 departments. Interior skylights in the main building Since 1993 ETH Zürich, the EPFL, and four associated research institutes were joined and administered together as the "ETH Bereich". www.universitieshandbook.com

Brutal fight of the hooligans in Europe, Switzerland
Duration : 266 Seconds

This fight was in Europe, Switzerland in 2003. The hooligans on left side of the terrain are the supporters of Partizan from Serbia, and the hooligans on the right side of the terrain are supporters of Dinamo from Croatia. The sport commentator continued to comment the fight, just like the hooligans fight is completly normal thing to do. Football hooliganism (sometimes described as the English Disease) is hooliganism by football club supporters. Fights between supporters of rival teams sometimes take place immediately before or after football matches; often at pre-arranged locations away from stadiums, in order to avoid police. A football firm (also known as a hooligan firm or simply a firm) is a gang formed with the intent to engage in fights with members of firms from other clubs. Some firms, especially in southern and eastern Europe, have been linked with far right political groups, but other firms have been associated with leftist or anti-racist views. The firms' political views are not necessarily representative of all supporters of the teams. Football hooliganism has been featured in films such as ID, The Firm and Green Street, (the latter featuring fictional firms based on West Ham's' Inter City Firm (ICF) and Millwall's Bushwackers). There are also many books about hooliganism, such as The Football Factory (also a film) and Among the Thugs. Some contend that such media representations glamourise violence and the hooligan lifestyle. More recently, the book Perry ...

Züri Littéraire: Aufbruch
Duration : 349 Seconds

Giorgio Agamben. Literature and the Paradox of Monasticism. 2009 1/9
Duration : 601 Seconds

www.egs.edu Giorgio Agamben offering an analysis of power through an investigation of the paradox of monastic life in light of his concept, form-of-life. He spoke about St Francis, Catholic rule or regula, papal power and the history of the monastic experience. Drawing on a history of that shows the progressive control of the monastery by the church. He spoke about spiritualists, Pope John XXIII, the role of the apostate, existence and essence, law and life, Edward Muybridge and Étienne-Jules Marey, schema and rythmus, and looked at monastic literature. Public open lecture for the students and faculty of the European Graduate School (EGS). Giorgio Agamben is perhaps Italy's most famous contemporary philosopher; as a leading figure in both philosophy and radical political thought, he has been intimately connected, along with Antonio Negri and Paolo Virno to Italy's post-1968 leftist politics. During his tenure as professor at the Universita di Venizia, he has written widely on philosophy, politics, theology as well as radical critical theory—indeed, there is little in the world of critical theory that he has not at some point touched upon. Working in the wake of such thinkers as Michel Foucault and Jacques Derrida, as well as Martin Heidegger (with whom he studied with as a post-doctoral student) Agamben has become one the most influential thinkers of his generation, concerned primarily with the proper ethical and political task of thought. With over sixteen titles ...
