Take a tour of Pitons in St. Lucia in Choiseul, Saint Lucia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. On the southwest coast of the island of Saint Lucia two tall, pointed mountains rise out of the sea like a pair of shark's teeth. These are the Pitons, two volcanic plugs that still have active sulfur vents and hot mud pools. The two peaks are known as the Gros, meaning large, Piton and the Petit, meaning small, Piton. The waters near the mountains are beautiful, clear, and surrounded by coral reefs teeming with life. This richness of living things extends onto land as well, with thick, colorful rain forests, full of many species of animals. The Pitons are responsible for the lush surroundings; the fertile volcanic ash and soil intermingle to provide this unique tropical environment.
