The Karakoram Highway (KKH) runs from Kashgar in Western China to Islamabad in Pakistan, and isn't so much a highway as a 'high road'. It took a stunning 20 years to finish the road, and even today it continues to suffer from extreme weather and environmental disasters. The KKH runs through the highest concentration of soaring mountain peaks and raging rivers in the world, and is generally considered to be among the most spectacular areas on our planet. Traveling here isn't for the faint hearted, although transportation has improved significantly in the past decades. In October 2010 I had the chance to travel the Karakoram Highway. Although Pakistan had suffered its worst floods in recent history the same year, most parts of the road were still intact. Nevertheless, traveling the road proved a massive challenge and also a great adventure. As these events had scared off many tourists and travelers, I found myself among locals for nearly all of the time. Every day at dusk, Indian and Pakistani border guards put on a show of one-upmanship at the Wagah border crossing near Amritsar, Punjab. The two countries are not on the best terms, but instead of a boring stare down, there is plenty of humour and acrobatic extravaganza to be found as the soldiers try to outdo the other side by marching and parading in hilariously exaggerated fashion. Thousands show up to watch from the stands everyday, and we thoroughly enjoyed the crazy uniforms, inpressively high leg kicks, and the longest bellowing contest we have ever heard. Gotta say, the Pakistani bellower was a bit better that day :) Technical notes: Shot in 1080p HD with a Canon 60D camera and 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS lens. Railway train passing among beautifull hilly area from Attock railway station to Basal railway station then Basal to Mianwali ,was built by British about 150 years ago. 12- tunnels are between Attock to Basal then to Mianwali ,more than 150 years ago constructed by British Government when they ruled here in Pakistan + India before the 1947. A small railway station among the hills are Jhalar, Ochari, Jhamat, Chhab, Injara, Makhad Road, Sohan Bridge, Massan very beautiful station and there are many bridges are among the hills, when train pass over it present beautiful scene with ruythum of train sounds produce natural musics and when pass through tunnel children and gays whistle or cry just for enjoyment but railway boggies are so in bed condition which shows that Pakistan Railway did not improve in railway system but is still old which British left in 1947. Railway travel from Rawalpindi to Attock and to Mianwali is full on enjoyment including old buildings ,beautiful natural hilly sceneries, beautiful tunnels in hilly areas present joyable scene when train run in zig zag way produce train like dancing among the these hilly vallies with its natural music produce during walking on tracks , did not bore the journey, inspite of bed conditions of trains. New trains with modern boggies are very charmful for world wide tourism and can attract to foreigners as tourism in these areas to watch the natural beauty and enjoy the old system of railway which is antiques of 150 years ago ...
