CIA Caught Importing Crack Cocaine To Finance War In Nicaragua, Commission (1996)
Duration : 173 Seconds

5 years before 9/11 the CIA was under fire for importing cocaine to finance terrorist operations and mercenary armies. AP Story Wednesday, October 23, 1996 Arlen Specter, Bob Kerrey ..... US senators say a lack of public confidence may force Congress to take over a CIA investigation into the intelligence agency's possible links to drug traffickers. It follows a Senate Committee hearing into allegations that the American Government conspired with Nicaraguan Contras in the 1980's to sell crack cocaine in Los Angeles and other US cities. The hearings were prompted by a California newspaper report which alleged millions of dollars' worth of drugs profits were funnelled to the CIA-run guerrilla army in Nicaragua. The Senate Intelligence Committee hearings follow allegations that the Central Intelligence Agency played a major role in the crack-cocaine epidemic that started in Los Angeles in the eighties. A California newspaper recently reported that a local drugs ring sold tons of cocaine to Los Angeles street gangs...and then funnelled millions of dollars in drug profits to the CIA run guerrilla army in Nicaragua.

The Contra's, The CIA's Proxies In A Terror War Against Nicaragua
Duration : 881 Seconds

The Iran Contra affair was the blowback from a pair of American backed right wing dictatorships that fell in the late 70's during the Presidency of Jimmy Carter. The revolutions in both Iran and Nicaragua brought to power governments not the liking of the United States. Both became the two ends of one of the biggest scandals of the Reagan years. In the case of Nicaragua the hostility towards Sandanistas was so great that Ronald Reagan created an army of terrorists to try and overthrow them. The first part of this clip features an interview with Edgar Chamorro. Who was one of the original Contra leaders recruited by the CIA. He talks about his disillusionment with the brutal methods being used in the war. The second part of the video concerns a CIA inspired bombing at a press conference being held by Eden Pastora a genuine hero of the Nicaraguan revolution who turned against the Sandanistas. Since he had a genuine following in the country, unlike the Contra's, the US wanted to co-opt Pastora but he wouldn't cooperate. The explosion killed an American reporter and wounded eight others but missing their intended target Mr. Pastora.

The CIA & Nicaragua - US secret wars fought in South America
Duration : 601 Seconds

In 1909, the United States provided political support to conservative-led forces rebelling against President Zelaya. US motives included differences over the proposed Nicaragua Canal, Nicaragua's potential as a destabilizing influence in the region, and Zelaya's attempts to regulate foreign access to Nicaraguan natural resources. On November 18, 1909, US warships were sent to the area after 500 revolutionaries (including two Americans) were executed by order of Zelaya. The US justified the intervention by claiming to protect US lives and property. Zelaya resigned later that year. US Marines occupied Nicaragua from 1912 to 1933,[12] except for a nine month period beginning in 1925. From 1910 to 1926, the conservative party ruled Nicaragua. The Chamorro family, which had long dominated the party, effectively controlled the government during that period. In 1914, the Bryan-Chamorro Treaty was signed, giving the US control over the proposed canal, as well as leases for potential canal defenses. Nicaragua has experienced several military dictatorships, the longest one being the rule of the Somoza family for much of the 20th century. The Somoza family came to power as part of a CIA / US-engineered pact in 1927 that stipulated the formation of the National Guard to replace the small individual armies that had long reigned in the country. Somoza used the National Guard to force Sacasa to resign, and took control of the country in 1937, destroying any potential armed resistance ...

The War On Democracy Trailer
Duration : 136 Seconds

The War On Democracy was John Pilger's first for cinema. It explores the current and past relationship of Washington with Latin American countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile. Using archive footage sourced by Michael Moore's archivist Carl Deal, the film shows how serial US intervention, overt and covert, has toppled a series of legitimate governments in the Latin American region since the 1950s. The democratically elected Chilean government of Salvador Allende, for example, was ousted by a US backed coup in 1973 and replaced by the military dictatorship of General Pinochet. Guatemala, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador have all been invaded by the United States. John Pilger interviews several ex-CIA agents who took part in secret campaigns against democratic countries in the region. He investigates the School of the Americas in the US state of Georgia, where Pinochet's torture squads were trained along with tyrants and death squad leaders in Haiti, El Salvador, Brazil and Argentina. The film unearths the real story behind the attempted overthrow of Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez in 2002 and how the people of the barrios of Caracas rose up to force his return to power. It also looks at the wider rise of populist governments across South America lead by indigenous leaders intent on loosening the shackles of Washington and a fairer redistribution of the continent's natural wealth. www.johnpilger.com

Tasbapauni, Nicaragua - a short walk.
Duration : 306 Seconds

Tasbapauni is a small coastal community on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua in the RAAS (Región Autónoma Atlántico Sur - South Atlantic Autonomous Region). I was told Tasbapauni means "red dirt." The community is bordered on the east by the Caribbean, and on the west by Laguna de Perlas (Pearl Lagoon). The community is accessible from Bluefields only by boat via Pearl Lagoon. There are no roads or vehicles in the community, and electricity is available only when the community generator is in operation -- usually in the afternoon and early evening. During la contrarrevolucion (the Contra War), the community was the site of fierce fighting centered around the Moravian Church, with memories lingering long in community. A truly beautiful location with a constant ocean breeze, tropical forests, and a serenity unmatched.

The CIA & the US GOVT's old secret business: DRUG SMUGGLiNG
Duration : 6385 Seconds

Meet the biggest and most powerful drug running organization on the planet: the USA government. Yes, the Nortth American government with the CIA's logistic support. The "Mena Connection". Most major networks and news organizations have prepared thorough pieces on Mena (Arkansas), but none has ever aired. Why is that? This video will take you on a dark journey of corruption and drug smuggling which started back in the early 80's when Barry Seal (aircraft pilot) was bringing in drugs to the US on behalf of the Medellin Cartel. Seal had to move his base of operations from Louisiana and needed a safe doorway for cocaine into the United States. He had much help from the Arkansas governor back then Bill Clinton and also from George Bush. You are in for some very nasty surprises as you watch this documentary. -------------------------------------- DiSCLAiMER -------------------------------------- Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. The United States and the ICJ
Duration : 571 Seconds

The United States has long had an uneasy relationship with the International Court of Justice, which primarily arbitrates legal disputes among UN member nations that recognize its jurisdiction. The United States withdrew from the court's compulsory jurisdiction in 1986 after the court ruled it owed Nicaragua war reparations. The United States also disagreed with the court's stance that it failed to fulfill its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations in 2005 in cases involving Mexican nationals on death row. "There's always been a little bit of a love-hate relationship" between the United States and the International Court of Justice, says Judge Joan E. Donoghue, the US member of the court. However, she notes that more recently, the United States has increased its engagement with the ICJ especially with respect to individuals who are facing the death penalty in the United States. She says the United States is making considerable efforts to come into compliance, despite serious obstacles within its own constitutional system. Donoghue says she does not see herself as a representative of the United States to the court. "When I was at the State Department I served my country by representing it," she says, "and now I serve my country by being independent of it." While Donoghue acknowledges that the judges' nationality plays a role, she says it is for a different reason than people think. "Nationality has shaped the way we think because of the schooling we ...

Indigenous Wars - Nicaragua
Duration : 971 Seconds

January 1998 An excellent report that addresses the uncertain future for indigenous Nicaraguans as they fight against their own government and people. An 80% unemployment rate and commercialisation of the Mosquito coast has encouraged a growing trade in Crack cocaine. On a tour of the Ghettos of 'Little Miami', multitudes of brothels, crack dens and bars line the streets. The Nicaraguan government is unsympathetic to the natives pleas for land titles and autonomy of the Atlantic coast. In a desperate attempt to hold on to what is, traditionally, their land; a group of natives, the Miskit Indians, has taken up arms against the government. The authorities respond aggressively with the planting of land mines, a step contrary to an international convention, of which Nicaragua is a signatory. A Force for Good or Evil? Google Maps and Border Wars

order disputes have been around for thousands of years, but in the age of Google Maps, they are taking on another dimension. Does Google bear any responsibility if a conflict arises because of borders it has drawn? Or should we all realize that these maps are just for "entertainment"? Journalist Bill Stewart's Murder By Somoza Guardia - June 20, 1979
Duration : 73 Seconds

This is the ABC footage that was broadcast on all the networks in the United States and led to President Carter abandoning Somoza's regime, which fell a month later on July 19, 1979. Bill Stewart (d. June 20, 1979) was a reporter for ABC news in the US who was summarily shot by Nicaraguan government forces while reporting in Managua in 1979. Stewart was originally from West Virginia, and was a 1963 graduate of Ohio State University. An experienced foreign correspondent, Stewart had been in Nicaragua for a month reporting on the civil war between the American-backed dictatorship and the leftist Sandinistas. On June 20, 1979 Stewart was traveling in a van in the capital city of Managua with his camera crew when they were stopped at a checkpoint run by the Nicaraguan National Guard, the main force of President Anastasio Somoza Debayle. The van was marked as a press vehicle as a precaution. The young lieutenant in charge of the checkpoint saw Stewart peer out of the passenger window and ordered him out of the vehicle. Stewart was accompanied by Juan Espinosa, his interpreter. Stewart held a white flag and official press documentation from the Nicaraguan government. While Stewart was escorted a few meters away from the van his cameraman, Jack Clark, began filming the scene. Clark filmed as Stewart was forced first to kneel and then to lie face down on the ground. The lieutenant then put his rifle to the back of Stewart's head and fired, killing the reporter instantly. Espinosa ...

Noam Chomsky goes over list of War Crimes for which US presidents are responsible
Duration : 421 Seconds

"One of the more provocative statements of yours that I've read is that (...) if the standards of the Nuremberg trials were applied then every post-World War II American president would have been hanged as a war criminal". Noam Chomsky goes over a list of War Crimes for which US presidents are responsible.
