You may not have heard of the French painter Jean Marc Calvet. But after watching this film, you'll never forget his remarkable story. Before he had any thought of being an artist, Calvet was a bodyguard to the stars in Cannes. Living by impulse, he become disconnected from his family and young son, fell in with a Miami mobster and wound up hiding out in Nicaragua in a drug-fueled haze. At the age of 38, he started to paint as a form of recovery. That was seven years ago. Now, his intricate and colorful paintings sell for five figures. But he remains desperate to reconcile with the son he left behind. In this gripping and inventive film, Calvet retraces the missteps of his life as he builds up the courage to face his past and create a better future for himself. Mystical impressionist Omar D'León (born Omar D'León Lacayo y Estrada in 1929 in Managua, Nicaragua) is a well-known Nicaraguan painter and poet. D'León studied nine years at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Nicaragua under its director Rodrigo Penalba. His early inspiration were the frescos of Pompeii, where he saw the use of cross-hatching and applied this technique to his love of the Impressionist school. He founded a museum in Managua in 1970 named "Museo-Galeria 904". The museum's collection encompassed the arts of Nicaragua from pre-Hispanic to contemporary. In the earthquake of December 1972, D'León's museum and studio were partly destroyed and later ransacked, vandalized and robbed. After the Sandinistas took power in Nicaragua, he moved to Camarillo, California . In 1982, one of his paintings was reproduced in the form of a UNICEF stamp. His paintings are housed in many museums such as the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, DC, at the Ponce Museum of Art in Puerto Rico, at the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, the Chicago Art Institute and the José Luis Cuevas Museum in Mexico City.

Monkeys + Synthesizers is a project where 6 different spieces of monkeys (and some others) were given different synthesizers. Do monkeys like music and do they enjoy creating music? Humans is the only species on earth that actually compose music. Most birds and some mammals make beautiful sounds, but primarily to scare others away -- or to get laid. The project explores if other primates can make music. In the 60s, the Chimpanzee Congo became famous when he painted abstract paintings that got pretty good reviews by art critics. He had a distinct style in some sort of abstract expressionistic tradition. He liked red a lot but didn't he like blue. Today, some of his paintings are worth up to 20.000 €. Since the synthesizers was invented, the musicians have been asked "Is this really making music? You just press a button and out comes music, right?" Well... you do press buttons, twist knobs and faders, but there are endless ways of doing this. That is why the synthesizer probably is the greatest musical instrument in history. A great example of human ingenuity and engineering -- something that makes us different from the monkeys. Dwarf Monkey (Callithrix pygmaea) Habitat: The Upper Amazonas. Surrounded by the majestic environment a sulfurous spring emerges to rejuvenate and embellish those who cover their faces and bodies with its clay. This is the difference between the use of and the coexistence with the water, amidst the ancient cultures of Machalilla, Chollera and Valdivia. Vessels with rustic paintings, stone tools and necklaces of Spondylus shells are characteristic to the community. Antonio Pico, a member of the community, described the history of the river (- What happened to the river I am fighting for), how it over the years disappeared and how they now recover its story through those who lived it. Interpreting the melodies of everyday life he brightens our afternoon. A cultural performance portrayed the rebirth of Mother Earth and Humankind through the arrival of the waters. The waters take precedence over the sun to give life to that which did not have. It was during this time that he first began using pastels and watercolors, developing his style into a more realistic one inspired by Klimt, Lipking, Degas, and Manet. Along with surfing, travel has greatly influenced his work. Goodrich still counts exotic locals from around the globe as his preferred subjects — people from Mexico; Barbados; Costa Rica; Panama; Ecuador; Nicaragua; Peru; Haiti, and his favorite destination, Indonesia, where he's logged some 22 months travel experience over the past nine years. Since 2005, Goodrich has been using oil on wood regularly, and has focused on portraying obscure Blues musicians. "I like to paint the ones people many have forgotten about. I associate myself with a lot of them because they weren't concerned with fame or fortune — they just loved the music."

Our commitment is to contribute to the knowledge of our past, that survives as cultural symbol and to be part of the appeal of the community and its projection abroad.
