In our visit to Nicaragua, we have the chance to visit Bluefields, Managua and some of the cities near the capital of Managua , very nice country and their colonial style architecture is so beautiful, the small Pueblos are so peaceful!! it was a very nice experience. in Masaya the Folklore city we encounter a very particular place in the local Park Plaza, the owner, Mr.Manuel Ramirez and his Wife Xiomara are the only place in town with the most adorable concept of HIGH SERVICE!, Manuel told us that he designed the Table set very High to prevent the local street people and drunks to bother his customers!!, an unique concept and a very secure one.

The Cathedral of León, also known as the 'Real e Insigne Basilica Catedral de la Asuncion de la Bienaventurada Virgen Maria' (Royal and Distinguished Basilica Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) is a significantly important and historic landmark in Nicaragua. The Cathedral was awarded World Heritage Site status with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The site's nomination is Nicaragua's third cultural landmark, following the ruins of León Viejo and El Güegüense . The Cathedral's construction lasted between 1747 and 1814 and was consecrated by Pope Pius IX in 1860. Since then, the cathedral of León has maintained the status of being the largest cathedral in Central America and one of the most known in the Americas due to its Baroque style of architecture. The architectural design was carried out by the Guatemalan architect Diego José of Porres and Esquivel. The cathedral is distinguished for having a rectangular plant, of a type generalized in those centuries and similar to those of the cathedrals of Lima and Cuzco, Peru. The towers and the facade belong to the neoclassicist style. It has five naves, ten arched tracts, two towers in its facade and a chapel. The sacrarium is located almost parallel to the biggest altar whose salient breaks the rectangular symmetry. Check out design highlights on three projects from Nicaragua to Zimbabwe to Brazil Architecture for Humanity Design Open Mic March 14th at 12:00 Power to the People, an NGO based in Berkeley, has installed solar power at six sites in Nicaragua. Romina Arcamone and Jessica Shao are volunteers who are involved in this project, and Jessica shares her experience on a recent trip to Nicaragua in which she worked with the community to install a solar charging station. Kuda Mutsonziwa is an Architecture for Humanity Design Fellow and has been working since November on a project to build a Football for Hope Centre in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. In this session, Kuda shares her site assessment through maps and sketches, including a design challenge related to a water pipe leak. In the current design schematic stage of the project, Kuda also shows local material, textures, and colors that she plans to infuse into the project design. With many school age children in the area, one main goal is to make the site attractive and enjoyable to these children. Carolina Libardi is a design intern working in Petropolis, Brazil on a housing and recreational community center that is funded by Nike Game Changers. Last January, floods devastated this area, 90 miles west of Rio, and ten percent of the community lost their homes. The DISCO HUB will be the first open, shared-office space of its kind in Nicaragua. DISCO will have a design studio, coffee lounge, prototype lab, education center, business incubator and art gallery. The furniture for the DISCO hub has been designed by my friend and architect Carlos Chica. For every piece of furniture designed for the DISCO, Carlos will plant a tree in a local school. From product design to packaging, art exhibitions, conferences, workshops, architecture and furniture design, DISCO will be the new center for great design in Nicaragua. The DISCO will be a place where where we can invite our friends (the countries best artisans, designers, architects and creative professionals) over for a DISCO party and start changing the world.
