Nepal is known as the abode of the gods. For many years a secret, unknown country, it was, in the 1950s, faced with making a leap from the 11th century to modern times. Five protected areas are located in the region and many species of wildlife, including the rare Royal Bengal tiger and leopard, can be observed. In the center is Durbar Square where there is a wonderful collection of temples and shrines, both Buddhist and Hindu. They are generally built in the pagoda style with a mass of intricate exterior carving. The old Royal Palace is in the square, as is the Statue of Hanuman the Monkey God, clad in a red cloak. Here also is the house of the living goddess -- the Kumari. A few kilometers from Kathmandu is the hugely impressive Bodnath Stupa. Dining for Women is a giving circle whose members share a vision of eradicating world poverty. We share food and friendship, and pool our donations to fund international grass-roots programs that empower women and girls. Fifteen women from DFW traveled to Nepal in November 2011 to visit groups that had received financial support. Those organizations are Heifer International, One Heart and SWAN. This video is an overview of that trip and shares some of the good things that happen when women help other women.

Nepal's Road 2011 Comedians Rhod Gilbert and Greg Davies attempt to drive through the mountainous, landlocked nation of Nepal. Starting from the chaotic border with India, they travel across the country's most important roads, from highways that maintain its cities to freshly-dug dirt tracks that connect to isolated communities. There are uplifting stories throughout, but it is a journey that is fraught with danger. Besides having one of the world's highest rates of road traffic accidents, floods and landslides are an everyday occurrence, blocking traffic for days on end and claiming dozens of lives every month.
