This year's theme, Run with the Wind, was in memory of CCF's ambassador cheetah, Chewbaaka, who died in April at age 15, and highlighted CCF's long-term efforts to ensure the survival of the wild cheetah. Israel "Kazembire" Zemburuka, host of NBC's Good Morning Namibia, was the evening's Master of Ceremonies and helped to move the programme along while entertaining the guests. Dr. Netty Purchase, from Zimbabwe, Coordinator of the Regional Cheetah Conservation Strategy for the Zoological Society of London and the Wildlife Conservation Society, was the special guest speaker. Maxi Louis, Solvay Okorusu Flourspar Mine, Isak ≠Ôuseb and Dennis Muesee were this year's recipients of Cheetah Conservation Awards.

Sex workers are subjected to widespread human rights abuses, including police violence and unequal access to health care, in Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. Despite enormous challenges, they are organizing to protect their rights and demand an end to violence and discrimination. A report published by the Open Society Institute, Rights Not Rescue, is based on a series of interviews and focus groups with sex workers and advocates throughout the three countries. In this animated short film, sex workers who participated in the research tell their personal stories and collectively call for hope and change. African Youth with Disabilities: Raising our Voices for Inclusion was a six-day gathering of 50 youth with disabilities organized by the Open Society Foundations to support and foster young disabled leaders in Africa. In this segment we hear from Nicolette Pieters who says, "I come from a very poor family. I grew up in a very poor background. So even the environment in which I grow up, not a lot of success stories came out of it. But then I just realize that success depends on me and what I do with myself."

Gambling is legalized in Namibia but it woefully has brought the new problem to the fore as more women than men are swept into the gambling. Namibian women often gamble away the money earned by their husbands. This unbecoming behavior of women in the society is not only criminal against children but also is a direct call for violence against them. Adding misery to the poor, this practice has led to the wastage of the money that could have put food on the table for poor families. Though Women's Action for Development offer training programs that are especially aimed at reducing poverty among women, but women on the other also not to squander away a little they have while running after the riches which will continuously evade you. And inspite of Women's Action for Development programs, there remains lot more for the Govt. to do. Laws need to be amended and putting ban on gambling will surely reduce poverty and violence against women. www.instablogs.com

The film's main theme is multiple concurrent partnerships - one of the major drivers of the epidemic, not only in Namibia. The format of the film - an interactive drama that allows viewers to influence the story - provides great opportunities for personalized discussions. It is not "them" who are at risk, who have the problems, but it is actually us, the people around us, our friends, the men and women we admire for their lifestyles. AIDS is not a disease of the poor. HIV has entered those strata of society whose members do still feel safe and unaffected. It is urgent that we overcome those false perceptions and Philip Wetu will help us do just that. The production of the film was initiated by the GTZ/DED Multisectoral HIV/AIDS Control Programme together with the Goethe Center Windhoek.

The "Month of Photography" is a worldwide platform to celebrate the art of photography and photography as a creative industry. After 30 years of existence the organizers all over the world can state today that this action had a great impact on the development of photography as an art, as well as on the development of its industry. In Namibia, there are more and more Photography artists, but only a few events have been created to promote or develop this art. This first Month of Photography-Windhoek is one way to initiate a great dynamic that hopefully gives a real jumpstart to the industry and the newly formed Photographic Society of Namibia.

Pilgrim relief society has commenced the construction of a medical clinic in the Omatako valley, Namibia. Currently the closest hospital in the region is located over 100 miles away. The facility will provide critical medical supplies and services to the community. Pilgrim co-ordinators anticipate the clinic will be completed by April 2011. Contributions are welcome. The Pilgrim Society Development Project was launched in August 2009.
