Namibia: The Internal Struggle for Independence - 1985-1989
Duration : 113 Seconds

The Internal Struggle Namibia 1987/88 During the 1980's the battle for the hearts of the Namibian people was being fought. The PLAN combatants were waging war with their Angolan, Cuban and Russian allies, but this was taking place outside the borders of the country. Inside the country, the battle was in the form of protest and civil disobedience. The internal struggle included famous Namibians such as Hendrik Witbooi, Danny Tjongarero, Niko Bessinger, Anton Lubowski, John Pandeni and Ben Ulenga. They were harassed, beaten and arrested continuously by the South African regime. However, the regime felt it was winning. They had created ethnic authorities and many of these leaders had convinced the people of the need for managed democracy versus the communist take-over by SWAPO. All that changed when the students started participating in the struggle. In 1987 the police were unable to control and prevent the students from running through Katutura and Khomasdal, with some of the marchers reaching the central business district. By mid 1988, the South African regime and their puppet government was losing control. Over 75 000 school students were boycotting schools throughout the country in protest at the South African army and police repressions. The boycotts began at the Ponhofi Secondary School in Ovamboland. Laws such as the Protection of Fundamental Rights Act (No. 16 of 88) were being used to prevent the gathering of any kind. This specific law was contested by the Namibian ...

Kids will be kids
Duration : 90 Seconds

Ten months out of the year, Osire's children are enrolled in school. They learn math, science, literature and other subjects from refugees who have been certified as teachers. But the other two months of the year, the children have to find ways to entertain themselves. Some play with makeshift toys, others chase goat herds as they move through the camp, and still others play soccer or tag. But no matter what they choose to do, they all find ways to have fun.

Omuthitu School Feeding Program - Promote Africa
Duration : 280 Seconds

The Omuthitu Feeding Project is a unique pilot program in the Omusati region of Namibia. The project aims to increase primary school enrollment and performance levels by developing a school-feeding program using food grown by students on school property and then cooked using solar ovens. Research suggests that school feeding programs, in addition to improving child welfare and nutrition, can increase school enrollment rates. This is due to the fact that, in Namibia, the school day ends at 1:00PM, which removes the schools responsibility to feed lunch to learners. In Ongandjera, it is estimated that 40% of school age children have lost at least one of their parents to HIV/AIDS. Additionally, due to financial constraints, many of these learners miss at least one meal a day. Ensuring a free or subsidized lunch at school provides a strong incentive for parents to send their children to school, and it will help learners with their academic performance, as they will have renewed energy and enthusiasm to study. The project started when a US Peace Corp volunteer at the school began using a donated solar oven to make bread to sell to teachers. Since then, the community has formed a volunteer feeding program committee comprised of 35 school parents. In a school of 300 students, nearly half of whom are orphans, this number of parents represents over half the children at the school. Clearly, the community's level of involvement thus far has been extremely encouraging. To date, the ...

Khanya Annual Winter School 2003_1
Duration : 375 Seconds

The fifth Khanya Annual Winter School in 2003 looked at NEPAD and the Challenges for Social Movements especially in the Southern African region. One of the major obstacles to solidarity across borders xenophobia was discussed in the context of African ruling class attempts to integrate Africa, the NEPAD. The Winter School was a step towards building regional solidarity, and raised consciousness among participants about the need to combat xenophobia in the sub-region. It was also an opportunity for activists to celebrate a culture of resistance, Activists from different countries shared songs and poetry, among others Richard Nwamba who spoke on the music of migration in Africa. Xenophobia in focus Creating awareness about Xenophobia was probably one of the most successful aspects of the Winter School. The combination of testimonies from refugees living in South Africa and the discussions on NEPAD combined the broader political context with very personalised accounts of the barriers to solidarity. The cultural programmes on African Literature, African forms of culture, African music and the contributions from comrades at the Winter School cultural evening all proved to be powerful methods of highlighting our common histories and our ability to create solidarity in the region. One hundred and thirty one activists from 74 different organisations participated in the school. Twenty-nine were from the Southern African region. PITN - The Mystery of Asenath
Duration : 1711 Seconds

One of Israel's greatest heroes, Joseph, rose to power in Egypt. Pharaoh honored him with a Gentile bride, daughter of the high priest of On, the city traditionally called Heliopolis. Her name was Asenath, and she married Joseph. In time, she became the mother of Ephraim and Manasseh. But as an Egyptian priest's daughter with a name dedicated to an idol, she also represents one of the Bible's greatest symbols. In fact, her name is a biblical archetype, the spirit and meaning of which remains alive and well to this day. Historically, it appears in a variety of different guises, but the image she represents is universal, and is venerated in statuary, paintings and literature. Rescued from devotion to an occult priesthood by her union with Joseph, she symbolizes a secret doctrine, and its ultimate defeat by Christ. As we track the historical appearances of the goddess for whom she is named, we discover that she plays an important role in prophecy, and in the direction taken through the march of time, by the leaders of the world order. In Babylon, Assyria, Persia, Greece and Rome, we find her prominent influence. In the Bible, she is the Old Testament "queen of heaven," and the New Testament "Diana of the Ephesians." RYB II - Leave Israel Alone
Duration : 254 Seconds

You can see part 1 by going here: www.youtube.com All USA presidents since UN 242 have supported Israel's right to protect its interest, that is, until May 19, 2011 when Barack Obama, in an official address, gave support to reestablishing the pre-1967 borders between Israel and Palestine. It appears the battle for a settled peace has taken a step backward. The scriptures read: "Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land..." (Genesis 12:7) "For all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever." (Genesis 13:15) "And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." (Genesis 17:7-8) The most relevant question is: Could or would Israel's enemies really be satisfied with a return to pre-1967 borders? The answer is a resounding "no" based on their own literature. They will only be satisfied with the complete destruction of Israel. Is President Obama's position to return to pre-1967 borders merely a lack of research and a working knowledge of the deep seated animosity between Jews and Arabs? Or is it a bold step to get Israel into a position of disadvantage? Thus, The world's geopolitical focus is fixated upon this struggling ...

Genocide by Raphael Lemkin
Duration : 214 Seconds

Raphael Lemkin born on June 24, 1900 was a Polish lawyer of Jewish descent. Before World War II, Lemkin studied the Armenian Genocide in depth and campaigned in the League of Nations to ban what he called "barbarity" and "vandalism". He is best known for his work against genocide, a word he coined in 1943 from the root words genos (Greek for family, tribe or race) and -cide (Latin for killing). He first used the word in print in Axis Rule in Occupied Europe: Laws of Occupation - Analysis of Government - Proposals for Redress (1944). Lemkin was born Rafał Lemkin in the village of Bezwodne in Imperial Russia, now the Vawkavysk district of Belarus. Not much is known of Lemkin's early life. He grew up in a Jewish family and was one of three children born to Joseph and Bella (Pomerantz) Lemkin. His father was a farmer and his mother a highly intellectual woman who was a painter, linguist, and philosophy student with a large collection of books on literature and history. With his mother as an influence, Lemkin mastered ten languages by the age of 14, including French, Spanish, Hebrew, Yiddish, and Russian. * Bangladesh * Bhutan * Brunei * Cambodia * China * India * Indonesia * Republic of Korea * Laos * Malaysia * Maldives * Mongolia * Myanmar * Nepal * North Korea * Pakistan * Philippines * Singapore * Sri Lanka * Thailand * Timor-Leste * Viet Nam * Taiwan * ACD * APEC * ASEAN * ASEM * EAS * ESCAP * SAARC * Other Issues Pacific * Australia * Fiji * Kiribati * Marshall ...

Get the word out on this video. - Tuesday June 7 2011 12:05 pm en.wikipedia.org Joseon (July 1392 -- October 1897) (also Chosŏn, Choson, Chosun), was a Korean sovereign state founded by Taejo Yi Seong-gye that lasted for approximately five centuries. It was founded in the aftermath of the overthrow of the Goryeo Kingdom at what is today the city of Kaesong. Early on, Korea was retitled and the capital was relocated to modern-day Seoul and the kingdom's northernmost borders were expanded to the natural boundaries at the Amnok and Duman rivers (through the subjugation of the Jurchens). Joseon was the last royal and later imperial dynasty of Korean history. It was the longest ruling Confucian dynasty. During its reign, Joseon consolidated its absolute rule over Korea, encouraged the entrenchment of Korean Confucian ideals and doctrines in Korean society, imported and adapted Chinese culture, and saw the height of classical Korean culture, trade, science, literature, and technology. However, the dynasty was severely weakened during the late 16th and early 17th centuries, when invasions by the neighboring Japan and Qing nearly overran the peninsula, leading to the kingdom becoming a Qing tributary state in 1636 and to an increasingly harsh isolationist policy for which the country became known as the Hermit Kingdom. After invasions from Manchuria, Joseon ...
