KAYEC Award Ceremony for KYD Participants. Over the past 7 years, KYD has reached 3500 children and been instrumental in developing the leadership potentials of its participants, boosting their self esteem and confidence and enhancing their ability to realise their right to education, health and safety. Participants are given opportunities to freely express themselves and build personal, social and academic skills with the help of community volunteers and facilitators who listen and motivate and inspire them. Currently, KYD Program works with 70 participating schools in nine towns.

On our journey there is a lot of learning about culture. In February we spent a lot of time with the Himbas trying to understand more about the culture and attire of the people. It is unusual to meet Himba people who speak English so it was pleasant to ask questions and learn a little bit about this young man and his life.
