We meet and Bow Wow licks the Ju/'hanse San people, or as they are more commonly known, the Bushmen Tribe near Tsumkwe, eastern Namibia. Bow Wow thinks that spear throwing is a game of fetch and wows the tribes with his tricks, (keep your eye on the bushmen watching on the right!) while Lucie makes jewellery out of ostrich eggs and Lachlan considers ditching his Calvin Kleins for some Bushmen budgie smugglers. Lucie joins the San women in their Elephant Dance, an ancient dance depicting the female chain of communication that takes place when someone comes across a dangerous animal and the warning of its location spreads from one woman to another. Finally, we are honoured that the tribe's doctor contacts the spirits of his ancestors for us, transcending to a trance like state that is palpable in the air and gives us goosebumps. RAPAPORT... The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show wrapped up this week on an extremely positive note with a new record of 37000 total attendees. The show attracted more than 2800 exhibitors from 46 countries and regions — making it the largest for this show's history. The number of buyers increased by 16 percent overall and the number of overseas buyers increased by 23 percent, led by Hong Kong's three major export markets for fine jewelry — buyers from the US rose 22 percent; buyers from France increased by 30 percent and buyers from Switzerland rose 6 percent. Buyers from emerging markets increased as well. Buyers from the Chinese mainland rose 33 percent, buyers from India rose 41 percent, Russian buyers in attendance increased 27 percent, Brazilian buyers rose 29 percent and there were 16 percent more buyers from Japan at this year's show. The Diamond Trading Company opened its 2012-contract period sightholder process this week. Those intending to register for this first round for sights in London, Botswana and Canada must submit audited financial information and a meet certain requirements regarding minimum revenue stream and rough utilization during each of the past three years. Applicants for sights in South Africa and Namibia have lower minimum requirements. Although their monthly pay is low clothing is very cheap eg a smart genuine leather jacket priced at US $80. All clothing is "Western" style. The Best Arabic Rap Song LaLaZeZo Lovers of belly dancing can expect a vibrant show full of colour, culture and energy at the World Belly Dance Day. The "Shimmy for Shelter" celebration will be held on 14 May at the University of Namibia (UNAM) space theatre in efforts to raise funds for charity. The World Belly Dance Day is celebrated in order to raise money for charity annually, on every second Saturday of May. The brainchild of Shimmy for Shelter initiative, Sascha Olivier-Sampson of Moon Goddess Dance Studio, said since the well being of animals is close to her heart, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) would be the perfect charity organisation to benefit from the show. Olivier-Sampson said that: "I would love for all of the animals to be re-homed but until then, I want to know that we can do something to help while they are still being taken care of by the SPCA. I always think that animals in need are without a voice and it's up to us to ensure their safety and well being." The show will feature over 20 performers, including dancers from Moon Goddess Dance Studio, Bohemian Magic, individual dancers and a dancer from Swakopmund. This year's show will be different from its forerunners as new dancers are participating and there will also be a tribal belly dance performance. The new 2010/2011 Southern Africa Shining Light Awards collection consists of 30 jewellery pieces. 10 of these crafted by local South African designers, 10 designs created and designed by Namibian designers, and 10 designs created by Botswana designers. Of the 30 pieces, 15 contain Forevermark diamonds. Forevermark is a diamond brand launched by De Beers in 2008. The new collection comprises 30 spectacular pieces of diamond jewellery set with over 25 thousand diamonds including natural black diamonds, natural brown diamonds, canary yellow and cape coloured diamonds and of course, brilliant white diamonds.
