I took this difficult journey through the Namibian desert on a mission to meet the incredible Himba tribes in the very north. Only one path made of gravel rock and sand could lead me to this destination but on the way it would only take one unpassable obstacle for me not to be able to go any further. The only way to get there, would be with the help of people from nearby villages and a lot of ingenuity.

Galz & Goals is a Namibia Football Association project in partnership with UNICEF and SCORE (Sports Coaches Outreach) to empower girls aged 9 to 15 to live a healthy life through participation in football leagues and festivals. Football is promoted as a positive and fun way of avoiding risk behaviours associated with the spread of HIV in Namibia, such as drinking alcohol, MCP, intergenerational and transactional sex. Joining our league through school or community teams, girls become Galz & Goals members and receive a G&G Passport containing an oath and tips on living a healthy life, encouraging dreams and aspirations. They also receive a booklet introducing football and healthy living through tips and interactive games using female Namibian and International role models. Structured sustainable leagues are created in each region by teachers, parents, girls, coaches and volunteers from the community who are trained on life skills topics through workshops where they also become NFA certified coaches. SCORE facilitators integrate a curriculum of self confidence, peer leadership, role modelling, fair play and Gender awareness with training on the delivery of Kicking AIDS Out activities (games designed to educate girls on HIV and Life Skills through football) for use in training sessions and festivals.

Majka Burhardt is a writer, climber, and American Mountain Guides Association Certified Rock Guide. A lifelong adventurer, she has traveled and guided throughout the world by bike, canoe, and, more often than not, by foot. Much of Majka's recent work has been focused on Africa, where she first went to Ethiopia in search of a rare coffee. Unexplored sandstone towers kept her in Ethiopia and resulted in her book Vertical Ethiopia, short‑listed for the Banff Book Award. Eros & Thanatos was a stage production; a Fashion Theater play in which Ombetja Yehinga Organization (OYO) coordinated a variety of fashions and choreographic elements for the purpose of HIV/AIDS awareness and education. The show rapidly became a huge favorite and success in Namibia, and after the production of the video, it lived on for the affected youth of Namibia. OYO is a non-profit organization that focuses on HIV/AIDS awareness and education, as well as other social problems that the youth of Namibia faces. A very large portion of their energies go into creating dance choreographies, plays and monologues with specific messages relating to HIV and social issues. Johann Smit of FemtaByte created most of OYO's videos between 2001 and 2008. These videos were circulated among Namibian schools and HIV education facilities, and a few of the videos made it to film festivals in Burkina Faso, Kenya, Amsterdam, UK, Germany, France, USA and China.
