| | Rock pool at Heaven, Windhoek, Namibia 03April2011 Duration : 220 Seconds On Sunday morning 03 April 2011, a couple of us friends met up and headed of to Heaven which is just north of the capital Windhoek. We took my Pajero SWB and ascended into the Eros mountains. We followed a 4x4 trail until we reached the foot of "Heaven" phase 01. We left the car on the side of the river and started walking up the trail. At first we started of slow because we had to dodge massive golden orb weavers. Which are massive colorful spiders that spin their golden webs across the the tree tops. When we got to the mica banks it was a steady climb towards the top. We walked for about an hour to reach the top of "Heaven" and found a little pool just deep enough to jump into from a 3m bank. We spend some time here cooling of and shilling out before we descended down the same path. Climbing down massive mica slabs following the little stream down towards the river was an awesome experience for all of us. When we got to the bottom, we all laid back in the river to cool down for a while before we drove back to Windhoek. | | Namibia Corruption Investigation Expanded Duration : 61 Seconds Now to Africa. NTD reported last month on the Namibian corruption scandal involving the Chinese company Nuctech. Well now investigators in Namibia are expanding their investigation. Suspects in the Nuctech case are accused of channeling millions of dollars through a Namibian company called Teko Trading—and spending it on luxury items. Teko Trading, investigators say, is not a real company—it exists only on paper. And now the New York Times reports that under an expanded investigation, another Chinese company is under scrutiny. Its called the China National Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Company. Namibian officials are saying it agreed to pay Teko Trading 10 percent of a 61-million-dollar railroad deal. The corruption allegations came to light after a new law was passed in Namibia. The law requires banks to report money transfers of more than 135 thousand dollars. And Teko Tradings wild bank account fluctuations had shown up on the radar. Tags :NTD, Namibia, Africa, Corruption Nuctech, Teko Trading, New York Times

| | Health, Equity, and Education for All Duration : 273 Seconds The child is at the center of efforts to achieve Education for All (EFA) by 2015 and to address the Millennium Development Goals of universal basic education and gender equality in education access. Health, Equity, and Education for All delves into this issue and asks, Given equal education opportunities, does every child have an equal chance to learn? The evidence shows that the answer is a resounding no—poor children, because they suffer most from ill health and malnutrition, are also less able to attend and complete school, and to learn while there. But governments and development partners like the World Bank are working together towards ensuring that every child is able to stay in school long enough to learn. The positive experience of school health and school feeding programs in low-income countries shows that carefully designed programs can provide a cost-effective solution. Moreover, these programs are intrinsically pro-poor, as their greatest benefits are for the poor, the sick, and the hungry. It is clear that school health programs are necessary to achieve equity in education for all children. This film sets the stage for the corresponding full-length publication, Health, Equity, and Education for All: How School Health and School Feeding Programs are Leveling the Playing Field, which explores how programs can be implemented at meaningful scale in the poorest countries that need them the most.
