Aung Kyaw Htet -Burmese Painter "Aung Kyaw Htet was born in Myaungmya and studied at the State School of Fine Arts in Yangon. He is a devout Buddhist and grew up in a small village -- two factors which have a strong influence on his art. Information about Buddhism in Myanmar can be found at dhammaweb.net. Over the past decade, Aung Kyaw Htet has quietly produced some of the most coherent, nuanced and resonant bodies of art works from Myanmar. While his depictions of novice monks and nuns may unleash questions about the slippery social environment of Myanmar and the role of romanticism under such conditions; he instead mobilises a reserved and ordered look into the inquiry of social isolation and spiritual identity with a contemporary emotional mannerism that represents these subjects as irredeemably human. Aung Kyaw Htet's aesthetic is reservedly authored as his work explores an artistic intellectualism where composition and narrative are pitched together. He has participated in several exhibitions internationally such as in Thailand (2002, 2004, 2005, 2008), Singapore (2003, 2008, 2012) Hong Kong (2003, 2004), Taiwan (2006), India (2009), Dubai (2009), and Monaco (2010). Filmed this on 22 April 2012 at Bogyoke Aung Sang Road, Yangon (near about 29th street), close to the Scott Markets. FYI, 800 kyats = USD$1, so he was selling his large paintings for less than 2USD each.

The Golden Hands Of Myanmar (GHM) is the signature show of Arty Art Gallery (AAG). GHM is the show where you will get inspired by the best of the Burmese Artists unique artworks. He is an aspiring master artist who becomes successful by his paintings about daily activities and religious ceremonies. This Datha-giri series is based on Yama Zatdaw, the Burmese version of The Ramayana, legendary ancient Sanskrit epic. Datha-giri is the king of Lanka whom received a boon from the creator-god Brahma that he could not be harmed or killed by either gods, demons or spirits. He is known as Datha-giri because of his ability to produce ten heads and twenty arms. In this series, the brief life of Datha-giri is depicted with the artists imagination and his fine art. The artist wants the audience to feel and follow the power, success, love, rage and pain in Datha-giris life. How fame and power could corrupt ones mind and how things would go wrong once one follow blindly after love. Datha-giri was an all conquering king who lost everything because of his wrong doing, stealing Sita from Rama who were happily married. All the greatness of power, love and lessons to learn in Yama Zatdaw are all portrayed though Aung Kyaw Tuns skilful brushstrokes in ten paintings. www.heriot-grantgallery.com presents artist Myint San Myint from Burma (Myanmar). Myint San Myint came to develop his present distinctive style of painting slowly. He first studied physics and worked as a teacher for eleven years, drawing and painting as a hobby until he decided to improve his technique and began to study painting with renowned artist U Thein Han. At first, he painted in a realistic style as he had been taught, but became bored with this approach and, since his family had a silkscreen business, he began to experiment with silkscreen as a medium. Gradually he progressed to using different media and styles, but retains a passion for working with prints. In 2010, he began a series of paintings of movie stars, combining their portraits with movie posters. Less famous subjects included thanakha-wearing women and a mute neighbour who is paired with a stringless guitar. The observer's attention is continuously shifted around his paintings from nearly obscured deeper layers to images laying on top of them. Because he is commenting on the mass media with its advertisements, headlines, and posters,these familiar elements impart a certain unsentimental reality to his work, but it should also be viewed as capturing the spirit of an era.
