Ava, Myanmar
Duration : 322 Seconds

The Kingdom of Ava used to be the old name of Burma as known to the Western world until the British annexation of Mandalay in 1885 after three successful wars. Apart from the crumbling old city wall and moat, barely recognisable today, Me Nu's Brick Monastery, as it is popularly known, has to be the most famous site in Ava. Built in 1822 by Nanmadaw Me Nu, queen of Bagyidaw (1819-1837), and formally titled Maha Aung-mye Bonzan Monastery, it remains the only brick structure of its kind ever built in pre-colonial times.

MINGUN Myanmar
Duration : 570 Seconds

Most of the buildings in Thailand's historic village of Mingun date back to the ambitious plans of King Bodawpaya, who was convinced that he was an exemplary Hindu-Buddhist sovereign and thus, did not permit any criticism of his architectural ideas. An example of his great love of architecture is the elegant white statue of the Settawya Pagoda that was built in 1811. Shining bright white and magnificent, the Hsinbyume or Myatheindan Pagoda, is located in the northern part of Mingun. The temple was built by a grandchild of Bodawpaya, Bagyidaw, in 1816. Three years prior to his reign, the king dedicated the sacred building to his deceased, favorite and highly religious wife, Hsinbyume. The outstanding architecture of the pagoda is closely associated with Hindu-Buddhist cosmology and therefore, with Mount Meru, the 'Centre of the World'. Seven wave-shaped terraces symbolize the mountains that surround Mount Meru and the Sulamani Temple that is located on its summit. However, Mingun is not only known for its impressive architecture. It is home to the world's heaviest bell that is six metres high and weighs more than 90 tons!

BAGAN Burma Myanmar
Duration : 603 Seconds

Bagan, located on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River in today's Myanmar, is a beautiful temple area, although little remains of its early history. Close to Bagan's city walls is the majestic Ananda Temple, that is dedicated to four Buddhas and was built at the end of the 11th century during the reign of King Kyanzittha. Situated on the river bank is what is believed to be Bagan's oldest pagoda, Bupaya. Its architecture indicates that it dates back to the time of the Pyusawdi. According to legend, both the construction of the unusual Manuha Temple and its name, date back to a captured Mon King who, it is believed, gifted the building to the city. The Shwegugyi Temple, the 'Great Golden Cave', indicates the transition of the once prolific Mon style to the Burmese architecture that followed. In recent times, these temples have attracted an increasing number of worshippers and there is no doubt that today, they are among the world's most prized cultural treasures.

Yangon City.wmv
Duration : 326 Seconds

Yangon City. Much more at www.allmyanmar.com and http with great pictures and videos. Yangon city, even in constant decline, still show some imperial architecture. Present day Yangon city was built by the English colonialists who didn't compromise with the East, the result was wide, straight, streets, with solid architecture of vaguely Victorian inspiration. In Yangon one is constantly being taken back to London 100 years ago; while down on the Yangon river front the style is that of the London river Customs House at that time. Within these edifices, there is a gleaming of dark woods and brass. Massive columns rise with shabby dignity of Yangon city. The main thoroughfares have incrustation of stalls, and through these European arteries now courses pure oriental blood made from Toyotas and still some world war 2 or WW2 trucks and buses remains.

MaximsNewsNetwork: UN GA: ISRAEL, MYANMAR, SYRIA, PAKISTAN (UNTV)
Duration : 268 Seconds

MaximsNewsNetwork: 28 September 2010 - UNTV: United Nations, New York -- At the high level plenary meeting of the 65th United Nations (UN) General Assembly yesterday (27 September) the speakers included: Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Myanmar's Foreign Minister Nyan Win, Syria's Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moualem, and Pakistan's Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Israel's Foreign Minister said "we are ready for a fair solution and we are ready to cooperate with the international community." Addressing the 65th Plenary of General Assembly at the United Nations, Avigdor Lieberman said that the guiding principle for a final status agreement was not, "land-for-peace but rather an exchange for populated territory." He said that the notion that a mismatch between borders and nationalities was a "recipe for conflict" and had long been accepted as a "virtual truism" in the academic community in Israel. Myanmar's Foreign Minister Nyan Win said that his country could draw from its lessons learned in holding multi-party general elections in the past. Syria's Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moualem said that while there was much talk about peace in Israel, "the drums of war continue to sound, " adding that land appropriation for settlement building continued unabated. Commenting on non-proliferation, Al-Moualem said that the IAEA "hastened to make strenuous efforts" to shelter Israel from the agency's oversight, thus encouraging Israel to continue developing its ...
