This is a case study of religious conflicts. Muslim-Buddhist war has been going on more than a thousand years. Today the war front is at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. Myanmar, formerly Burma, is the largest nation in Southeast Asia. Bangladesh, India, China, Laos, and Thailand border it on the west, north, and east. The Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal are on Burma's south. The Irrawaddy River, along which most of the people live, flows through the center of the nation and provides fertile land for agricultural production. Myanmar is also known as the world's second largest supplier of illegal opium. The people of Myanmar have lived with warfare since 1942. The current government is under the control of a military regime that has been in power for forty years. This military regime has forcibly repressed popular democratic movements and has exploited the country's rich natural resources, such as natural gas. These leaders' actions have left the economy of this nation in trouble and have placed the people in poverty. Officially, freedom of religion is allowed in Myanmar, but any group the government considers harmful to the state is harassed, persecuted, and often imprisoned. This has included Christians. Buddhism, no longer considered the state religion, is actively promoted by the military regime and most of the population is Buddhist. Through the work of early missionaries such as Adoniram Judson and others, a strong foundation for Christianity has survived. Many of the Christian nine percent are well educated and hold positions of responsibility in the country.

The town of Bago is 80kns from the capital Yangoon, and has much to offer in terms of sights and little neigboroods to discover. One of my day there was spent with the Tamil community, as they celebrated the molaipari festival.

In Easter 2008, I visited Burma (Myanmar) - home to a totalitarian military dictatorship. As a tourist, I was careful to minimise any money going to the government infrastructure and was welcomed by the Burmese people throughout the country. I felt the US$1 spent on the Circular Railway was worth the interactions it bought with local people from all around the city - I spoke to journalists, students, military-men and ex-civil servants about the situation in the country. I returned to Hong Kong and launched the HK Free Burma website @ www.freeburmahk.com There are no right or wrong answers in response to whether or not foreigners should visit Burma - but all who choose to go should ensure they do some reading before and during their travels. God has opened the door for preaching the Gospel in Myanmar. In October 2011, more than 8000 people came together in the Thuwanna indoor stadium in Yangon to worship Jesus Christ. Many denominations were present. Also two ministers of the national government came to give a speech and to proclaim freedom of religion.

Buddhism is a variety of teachings, sometimes described as a religion[1] or way of life that attempts to identify the causes of human suffering and offer various ways that are claimed to end, or ease suffering. This is formulated through the Four Noble Truths which teach suffering and its cessation through the Eightfold Path. It is a body of philosophies influenced by the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, known as Gautama Buddha.[2] It is also a set of teachings to guide one to directly experiencing reality[3][4]. Many scholars say that there is not one Buddhism but many Buddhisms, and the latest edition of one textbook is retitled Buddhist Religions.[5] Buddhism is also known as Buddha Dharma or Dhamma, which means roughly the "teachings of the Awakened One" in Sanskrit and Pali, languages of ancient Buddhist texts. Buddhism began around the 5th century BCE in India with the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, commonly referred to as "the Buddha". Gautama, whose personal name according to later sources was Siddhartha, was born in the city of Lumbini[6] and was raised in Kapilavastu.[7] The traditional story of his life is as follows; little of this can be regarded as established historical fact.
