| | 20 World War II Spitfire Buried In Myanmar Found To Be Unearthed Duration : 94 Seconds Twenty World War II Royal Airforce Spitfires'' buried in airfields in Myanmar are to be retrieved following a deal reached between the visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron and the country''s authorities. The aircraft were shipped to Myanmar (then Burma)in the summer of 1945, two weeks before atomic bombs were dropped on Japan which brought the war to a sudden end. The Spitfires never saw action as Earl Mountbatten ordered them to be hidden to prevent them falling into the hands of the advancing Japanese forces. The tiny fighters, which came straight from production lines were buried in crates at a depth of 4ft to 6ft to preserve them and their whereabouts became lost after the RAF struck off their locations from records, the Daily Mail reported. But aviation enthusiasts, aided by experts from the University of Leeds and a Second World War veteran who witnessed their burial, believe they have now discovered their locations using ground penetrating radar technology. So now under the pact between Cameron and Myanmar President Thein Sein, Britain wants to unearth the aircraft and restore them to their former glory. The British want to hunt the Spitfires in a joint heritage project. The condition of the cargo boxes and aircraft, whose wings and body are buried separately, is unknown. But experts are hopeful that they are well preserved. Spitfires helped to support the Chindit special forces on the ground and proved a huge boost to morale. They played a crucial role in ... | | Burma Democratic Concern (BDCs) Demand China to Stop Building Irrawaddy Dams Duration : 378 Seconds Protest against China building mega-dams at the Burma's Ayeyarwaddy river confluence in front of the Chinese embassy China is pumping billion of dollars building the mega-dams on Ayeyarwaddy River. People of Burma oppose the building Chinese dams especially at the confluence of the rivers, Mayka and Malika. Burmese people argued that it will affect adverse affect on the lives of the people, Burma environment and future of Burma. The concerns over the Myitsone Dams started when people of Burma learnt that previous junta agreed building the dams at the heartlands of the Kachin's culture, heritage and religious beliefs. Ecological change to the Ayeyarwaddy would impact all those whose lives are linked to the great river, from the ethnic peoples in the northernmost state of our country to the rice-growing delta of Burma. If dams were finished, stored the water and produced the electricity, then the river's water flow will dramatically slowing down and water level will be low leading towards dying the river. At the upstream of the river especially in the dams water will be contaminated with chemical and water will be polluted which will threaten very seriously the very existence of the nation's biodiversity as well as environmental crisis. Ayeyarwaddy dolphins are the fresh water endangered species of its kind and they will be one of the very first species which could be extinct due to the negative impact of building dams at the confluence of the Ayeyarwaddy River. | | CIA Archives: Buddhism in Burma - History, Politics and Culture Duration : 3158 Seconds thefilmarchive.org Buddhism in Burma (also known as Myanmar) is predominantly of the Theravada tradition, practised by 89% of the country's population It is the most religious Buddhist country in terms of the proportion of monks in the population and proportion of income spent on religion. Adherents are most likely found among the dominant ethnic Bamar (or Burmans), Shan, Rakhine (Arakanese), Mon, Karen, and Chinese who are well integrated into Burmese society. Monks, collectively known as the Sangha, are venerated members of Burmese society. Among many ethnic groups in Myanmar, including the Bamar and Shan, Theravada Buddhism is practiced in conjunction with nat worship, which involves the placation of spirits who can intercede in worldly affairs. With regard to "salvation" in the Buddhist sense, there are three primary paths in Burmese Buddhism: merit-making, vipassana (insight meditation), and the weizza path (an esoteric form of Buddhism that involves the occult). Merit-making is the most common path undertaken by Burmese Buddhists. This path involves the observance of the Five Precepts and accumulation of good merit through charity and good deeds (dana) in order to obtain a favorable rebirth. The vipassana path, which has gained ground since the early 1900s, is a form of insight meditation believed to lead to enlightenment. The third and least common route, the weizza path, is an esoteric system of occult practices (such as recitation of spells, samatha meditation ... | | SHAN STATE Myanmar Duration : 1563 Seconds North of Burma's central plains is the exotic and fascinating Shan State, a beautiful landscape in South East Asia located on the eastern side of Myanmar. Once 40 Shan monarchs ruled there but they lived in hostile times as Burmese kings and Chinese warlords fought against them to gain control of their fertile land. We begin our journey at Inle Lake. The magical beauty of this body of water has attracted and fascinated people since time immemorial and this unique lake is home to the Intha people. The next leg of the journey leads to a far more tranquil section of the lake that features floating gardens that are around a hundred metres long and two metres wide and consist of a densely interwoven carpet of water hyancinths. Mandalay, 'The City of Art', is located in the centre of Shan State. It was founded in 1857 and up until the British conquered it in 1885, it was the capital of the kingdom of Burma. The Mahamuni Pagoda is the centre of worship and is also where the Mahamuni Buddha is kept, the country's most highly worshipped Buddha statue. Around 12 kilometres beyond Hsipaw is the legendary Bagyo Pagoda. Surrounded by a magnificent wall, it is thought that the sanctuary is more than 700 years old. An important festival takes place each year around Tabaung, the time of the full moon in February and March, and is the highlight of the town's cultural calendar. The Shan people in the north of Myanmar have most certainly retained their cultural heritage and Shan State is an ... Formally titled Arimaddanapura or Arimaddana (the City of the Enemy Crusher) and also known as Tambadipa (the Land of Copper) or Tassadessa (the Parched Land), it was the ancient capital of several ancient kingdoms in Burma. It is located in the dry central plains of the country, on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwady River, 90 miles (145 km) southwest of Mandalay. UNESCO has unsuccessfully tried to designate Bagan as a World Heritage Site. The military junta (SPDC) has haphazardly restored ancient stupas, temples and buildings, ignoring original architectural styles and using modern materials that bear no resemblance to the original designs. Likewise, the junta has established a golf course, a paved highway, and built a 200-foot (61-m) watchtower in the southeastern suburb of Minnanthu.[1] Info Taken from Wikipedia.com Credits to Wikipedia.com en.wikipedia.org Main Tags :Pagan, Myanmar, streets, city, shopping, handicraft, art, cheap, culture, people, local, food, tour, exotic, center, centre, Travel, places to see, clothes, traffic, place of interest, sale, discount, free, nightlife, night, life, bars, clubs, dance, lights, drinks, performance, eating, bazzar, market, arcade, friendly, holiday, road, busy, crowded, alive

| | MINGUN Myanmar Duration : 570 Seconds Most of the buildings in Thailand's historic village of Mingun date back to the ambitious plans of King Bodawpaya, who was convinced that he was an exemplary Hindu-Buddhist sovereign and thus, did not permit any criticism of his architectural ideas. An example of his great love of architecture is the elegant white statue of the Settawya Pagoda that was built in 1811. Shining bright white and magnificent, the Hsinbyume or Myatheindan Pagoda, is located in the northern part of Mingun. The temple was built by a grandchild of Bodawpaya, Bagyidaw, in 1816. Three years prior to his reign, the king dedicated the sacred building to his deceased, favorite and highly religious wife, Hsinbyume. The outstanding architecture of the pagoda is closely associated with Hindu-Buddhist cosmology and therefore, with Mount Meru, the 'Centre of the World'. Seven wave-shaped terraces symbolize the mountains that surround Mount Meru and the Sulamani Temple that is located on its summit. However, Mingun is not only known for its impressive architecture. It is home to the world's heaviest bell that is six metres high and weighs more than 90 tons!
