Exodus of Ethnic Macedonians from Greece (3) rare
Duration : 480 Seconds

On November 27, 1919 with Peace Treaty of Ney, Greece and Bulgaria signed, a convention for voluntary moving of Greeks from Bulgaria and so-called Bulgarians from Greece. 86.000 Macedonians were expelled in Bulgaria. In a short historical period, 1913-1928, 53.000 Greeks were colonized in the Aegean part of Macedonia. The Greek and Turkish war from 1920 till 1922 was the last historical attemp of a small but ambritious Greek kingdom to realize a great-power Byzantium policy. After the battle by the river Sakaria and victory of Kemal Mustafa Ataturk, Turkey ended Greek ambitions towards Turkey. Peace talks were held in Lozana in 1923. 350.000 Muslims were expeled from Aegean part of Macedonia, 40.802 Macedonians of Muslim religion. Their places were filled up with Christians from Asia Minor colonizing 618.000 inhabitants at Aegean part of Macedonia. The Aegean part of Macedonia suffered great ethnical changes and lost its traditional Macedonian historical and ethnical image. The change of ethnical composition at Aegean part of Macedonia allowed Greece to give the province Greek toponym. All names of rivers, mountains, villages and towns were changed with Greek ones. Greece started a policy of denationalization and assimilation of Macedonians. Macedonian name was banned. Macedonians had to name themselves as Bulgarians, Serbs or endops, meaning natives. All Macedonians were forced to change their names and surnames should end with -ov, -es or -ulov. Macedonian language was ...

Second Balkan War -WW1 Macedonia 1913 -1919 (2)
Duration : 364 Seconds

Second Balkan War - WW1 Macedonia 1913 -1919 World War I, First World War, the Great War, the War To End All Wars or the World War (prior to the outbreak of World War II). The Second Balkan war between Bulgaria and allied forces of Serbia, Greece, Romania and turkey was short but extremelly crude. Defeated Bulgaria was forced to capitulate. With Bucharest Peace Agreement in 1913, Macedonia was divided among Greece (34.350 square km), Serbia (25.000 square km) and Bulgaria (6.700 square km). Even Albania got a small piece. New Balkan political status quo did not last forever. Taking Aegean part of Macedonia in 1913, Greek political boundaries exceeded Greek ethnical boundaries. Majority in Aegean part of Macedonia was not of greek origin. Greece introduced the rule: there is no place for others except us. They immediately started to create a state with one nation, one language, a state on two continents and five seas. Greece introduced a policy of expelling Macedonians and colonizing with other nations in order to change Macedonian ethnical image of Aegean Macedonia and to create new Greek ethnical reality. This policy was perfomed by greek state using favorable historical situation from 1913 till 1919. During the First Balkan War, besides Muslims, Macedonians were under strong political, economic and psychic pressure by greek forces. After the Second Balkan War this policy of genocide grew up with strong anti Macedonian character. Knowing the meaning of a new war, we ...

Greek assimilation policy (4) rare
Duration : 165 Seconds

Greek state conducted active assimilative policy with cultural education, schools, churches, army. Pressed by international public and Society of Nations, Greek Ministry of Education made a commission consisted of Papazahariu, Sajacii and Lazaru to prepare a primer for Macedonian children. The primer was ready in September 1925, printed in Latin letters in Macedonian language, Lerin-Bitola dialect. The primer was not distributed among Macedonian children but its printing means a recognition of nation and language. The genocide against Macedonians was supported by all Greek parties except the Communist Party of Greece. The party in 1931 rejected the theory that Macedonians are created from Greeks, Serbs and Bulgarians and they recognized Macedonian nation. They declared that Macedonian nation is not Bulgarian, Serbian nor Greek one. The recognition forced communist party to allow forming Inter Macedonian Revolutionary Organization united in Aegean part of Macedonia on Macedonian basis. This organization included 17 organizations with 900 members. But, Greek communist party left that position and accepted the policy of Greece for Macedonian national issue.

Occupy Wall Street Camps in Los Angeles, Philadelphia Dismantled in Massive Police Raids
Duration : 430 Seconds

DemocracyNow.org - Some 1000 police officers raided the Occupy Los Angeles encampment in a park outside City Hall over night, arresting scores of people and evicting what has been the largest Occupy camp in the country. Meanwhile Occupy Philadelphia protesters vacated their encampment this morning after more than a thousand police moved in and warned them of mass arrests. Democracy Now! gets eyewitness updates on both raids from National Lawyers Guild legal observer Ken Montenegro in Los Angleles and Occupy organizer and activist Jeff Rousset in Philadelphia. "[Philadelphia's history of free speech and democracy] changed this morning at around 1 am. The city shut down the subways; they barricaded all of city hall, about two blocks in every direction; and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of cops poured in. They forced everybody off the plaza," Rousset says.
