RPM Nautical Discoveries
Duration : 186 Seconds

From May 24th to June 18th 2009, American Foundation RPM Nautical run by Archeological Director Dr. Jeff Royal conducted the three weeks long research in Boka Bay in Montenegro. This research was a result of cooperation between US Embassy in Podgorica, Regional Institute for Cultural Heritage from Kotor and Underwater Demining Center from Bijela. The research resulted in finding a sunken submarine, one location with amphorae and two Roman cargo ships that are believed to be dating back to the period between 1st and 3rd century AD. The first vessel was transporting tiles and roof coverings, some of which still seem to be intact, while the other ships cargo were amphorae. These discoveries are of the biggest underwater archeological significance for Montenegro and speak a volume of rich heritage that Montenegro owns and which need to be protected. The cooperation with RPM Nautical Foundation will be continued next year. From July 20th to 27th Regional Underwater Diving and Demining Center from Bijela hosted a training instructed by The World Diving Federation Representatives and Italian and Croatian instructors. Regional Center from Bijela now has 6 professional and 3 sport divers who are trained to work with archeologists on sites of archeological interest. The 9 divers had a chance to dive down to the recently discovered intact ship marked by RPM Nautical ship Hercules and see on spot one of the unique archeological sites on the Mediterranean. The participants and ...

Croatia
Duration : 493 Seconds

Ferries to Croatia: www.ferriescroatia.com Croatia - is a country in Southeastern Europe, at the crossroads of the Pannonian Plain, the Balkans, and the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital (and largest city) is Zagreb. Croatia borders Slovenia and Hungary to the north, Serbia to the northeast, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the east, and Montenegro to the southeast, and it has a sea border with Italy to the southwest The Croats arrived in the seventh century in what is Croatia today. They organized the state into two dukedoms. The first king, Tomislav I was crowned in AD 925 and Croatia was elevated into Kingdom. The Kingdom of Croatia retained its sovereignty for almost two centuries, reaching its peak during the rule of Kings Petar Krešimir IV and Zvonimir. Via "Pacta conventa", Croatia entered a personal union with Hungary in 1102. In 1526, the Croatian Parliament elected Ferdinand from the House of Habsburg to the Croatian throne. In 1918 Croatia declared independence from Austria-Hungary and joined the Kingdom of Yugoslavia as co-founder. During World War II, Nazis occupied Croatian territory and with the aid of Ustaše created the Independent State of Croatia. After the war Croatia became a founding member of Second Yugoslavia. On 25 June 1991 Croatia declared independence and became a sovereign state. ( wikipedia)
