The Mongolian government established the Great Gobi National Park in 1975 and the UNESCO designated as the Great Gobi as the fourth largest Biosphere Reserve in the world in 1991. Mongolians consider that there are 33 different Gobi , where sandy desert occupies only 3 percent of the total territory. The area is often imagined as a lifeless desert like in many other parts of the world. Gobi Desert is a land of dinosaurs and it is the home for camel breeders rich with wildlife and vegetation. Great Gobi is divided into two ecologically distinct parts, the South Gobi ("Gobi A") and the Zuungar Gobi ("Gobi B"), separated by 300 kilometers. This video displays you "Gobi B"

October 31, 2005 Ulanbataar, Mongolia, Verbist Care Center (Вэрьист Тoь) The kids in my classes are exceptional kids. One of the boys spent two years on the streets before leaving the steam pipes underground for the promise of a regular meal. Since coming to the Verbist Center his demeanor has changed. He's healthy, smiles a lot and dreams one day of becoming a professional guitar player. "Like Bono of U2," he tells me, showing his ability to pick guitar strings over his hip pocket. Then two of the older boys, Amarsana and Ganbataar, lead me across town in search of a pumpkin. We find one between rows of eggplant and cabbage. The pumpkin is dark, orange and round. It's small but perfect for carving. Then we go to the candy store for a cheap bag of goodies and the market to buy a basketball. The basketball is a surprise. What is a party without a surprise?
