Aung Kyaw Htet - Myaungmya Burma - Painter
Duration : 310 Seconds

Aung Kyaw Htet -Burmese Painter "Aung Kyaw Htet was born in Myaungmya and studied at the State School of Fine Arts in Yangon. He is a devout Buddhist and grew up in a small village -- two factors which have a strong influence on his art. Information about Buddhism in Myanmar can be found at dhammaweb.net. Over the past decade, Aung Kyaw Htet has quietly produced some of the most coherent, nuanced and resonant bodies of art works from Myanmar. While his depictions of novice monks and nuns may unleash questions about the slippery social environment of Myanmar and the role of romanticism under such conditions; he instead mobilises a reserved and ordered look into the inquiry of social isolation and spiritual identity with a contemporary emotional mannerism that represents these subjects as irredeemably human. Aung Kyaw Htet's aesthetic is reservedly authored as his work explores an artistic intellectualism where composition and narrative are pitched together. He has participated in several exhibitions internationally such as in Thailand (2002, 2004, 2005, 2008), Singapore (2003, 2008, 2012) Hong Kong (2003, 2004), Taiwan (2006), India (2009), Dubai (2009), and Monaco (2010). His paintings are in the museum collections of the National Museum of Myanmar and the National Art Gallery of Malaysia." © Images are copyright of their respective owners, assignees or others video used for non profit purposes

Jacek Yerka
Duration : 578 Seconds

Jacek Yerka (born 1952) is a Polish artist and painter from Toruń. Yerka studied art for a short time at University, but then learnt from direct study of Northern European masters, the Van Eycks, Dierck Bouts, Robert Campin, Bosch, and surrealists such as Magritte. Yerka said: " I did my first painting of my life a year before going to college, where I began studying graphics. My instructors always tried to get me to paint in the more contemporary abstract style, and move away from my fascination with realism. I saw this as an attempt to stifle my own creative style and steadfastly refused to fall in line. Eventually, my teachers relented. " His paintings are acrylic on canvas and carefully rendered, using images from his childhood, including his grandmother's kitchen. He also includes odd beasts and whimsical landscapes. He comments, "For me, the 1950s were a kind of Golden Age ... If I were, for instance, to paint a computer, it would definitely have a pre-war aesthetic to it." Yerka's work has been exhibited in Poland, Germany, Monaco, France, and the United States. His works are also in Polish art museums. Yerka's work can be seen in Mind Fields, a book in which Harlan Ellison has provided narration for each of Yerka's selected pieces. Tying together all the subjects is the theme of forgiveness. Among the exhibition's stellar paintings is the vivid Madonna and Child (ca. 1466-67) by Sandro Botticelli (circa 1445-1510) which reveals the graceful spirit and sensitive lyricism for which the artist is best known. One of the earliest works is Lorenzo Monaco's The Crucifixion with the Virgin, Saint John and Mary Magdalene (ca. 1395-1400), with its pious figures and stunning gilt background that are a hallmark of the Late Gothic ...

Music: © Russ Ballard -- "Voices" © Sophie Zelmani -- "Love" © Copyright images property exclusive Andrew Gonzalez. WARNING: No copyright infringement intended. All copyrights belong to their respective owners. This video is for educational purposes only. A. Andrew Gonzalez was born on October 13, 1963 in San Antonio, Texas. Is an award-winning figurative artist whose work has been exhibited in several countries. Raised in a creative family, Andrew's art education is largely self-taught. His artist father, Anthony A. Gonzalez, encouraged his early interest in drawing and painting but gave him no formal training. In the year 2000, Andrew Gonzalez had the distinct privilege to work closely with the well-known Fantastic Realist artist Ernst Fuchs in Monaco and Austria. The paintings of Gonzalez are created with airbrushed acrylics on panel or canvas. Forms, values and highlighting are created by lifting pigment with an abrasive eraser, followed by the application of transparent layers of pigment. Influenced by idealism in the mystical, visionary and esoteric traditions, the artist describes his work as a contemporary Tantric or Transfigurative Art that explores the dramatic union of the sensual and spiritual. His work is akin to a revival of classical neoplatonic ideals centering on the figure as temple and vessel sublimed by transformative forces. ARTIST ...

Alberto Martini
Duration : 382 Seconds

Alberto Martini (November 24, 1876 - November 8, 1954) was an Italian painter, engraver, illustrator and graphic designer. Critics have described Martini's range of work from "elegant and epic" to "grotesque and macabre" and consider him one of the precursors of Surrealism. Martini was born in Oderzo, Veneto and received his early training in drawing and painting from his father, who was a portrait painter and a professor of drawing at the Istituto Technico in Treviso. Much of his career was spent illustrating famous literary works. In 1895 he began the first series of illustrations for Luigi Pulci's Morgante Maggiore and for Alessandro Tassoni's La secchia rapita. During this time he had his first exhibit which was a series of fourteen paintings from the anthology La corte dei miracoli at the Venice Biennale in 1897, where his drawings of beggars were described as "picturesquely grotesque".In 1898 he moved to Monaco and worked as an illustrator for the magazines Dekorative Kunst and "Jugend". In 1901 he illustrated an edition of La Divina Commedia. Beginning in July 1905, he produced 132 ink illustrations, which were described as "macabre", for the stories of Edgar Allan Poe which he worked on until 1909 and "inaugurated a period of great creative intensity within the graphics of literary inspiration." His work was clearly influenced by such artists as Albrecht Dürer, Urs Graf, Pieter Bruegel, Lucas Cranach, Albrecht Altdorfer, and Joseph Sattler whose work he had ...

Mario del Monaco - ("Otello" Verdi) - Rembrandt (Music and Painting)
Duration : 264 Seconds

The Legend and the Man from: "The Legend and the Man," in The World of Rembrandt: 1606-1669 (Time-Life Library of Art), Walter Wallace, New York, 1968, pp. 17-25 In life Rembrandt suffered far more misfortune than falls to the lot of an ordinary man, and he bore it with the utmost nobility. Three centuries after his death the misfortune, if a man long deceased can be said to endure such a thing, continues. To be sure, it is no longer the fashion for critics to attack him both as artist and human being. Today the injury is done with a fond smile by writers of romantic biographies and films who mean to honor him. Their revised standard version of Rembrandt's life runs approximately as follows: "The child of poor, ignorant Dutch peasants, Rembrandt was born with near-miraculous skill in art. As an uneducated young man, he established himself in Amsterdam, married a beautiful, wealthy, sympathetic girl named Saskia, and enjoyed a brief period of prosperity and fame. However, because men of genius are always misunderstood by the public, fate snatched him by the throat. The important burghers of the city, who may not have known much about art but knew what they liked, gave him an enormous commission - the Night Watch - in which the burghers were to be painted in traditional postures and lights. Rembrandt responded with a masterpiece, a fact unfortunately apparent only to him and his wife. Everyone else, from the burghers to the herring-peddlers, thought the painting was ...
