Diego Rivera and Famous Mexican Painters
Duration : 175 Seconds

From the www.VideoSource.com Global Village Travel Guide DVD's http (limited quantities) Mexico stock footage: www.videosource.com Transcript Diego Rivera is one of Mexico's most important muralists and colorful citizens. Rivera's powerful work here depicts the history of Mexico from the conquest by Cortez until the revolution of 1910. His intention was to create a visual textbook for the illiterate, portraying Mexico's past and telling the stories of the heroes and villains of national history. Although he was trained in Europe he was deeply Mexican in his pallette of colors and in his strong identification with the Mexican Indian. His world view shocked many. He was a revolutionary, an eloquent and impassioned defender of collective justice. Despite his notoriety the people love his paintings and today his works are clearly some of Mexico's greatest national treasures. Other great Mexican painters such as David Siquieros, (pause) Jose Clemente Orozco (pause) and Rufino Tamayo were also working in this large scale medium. The mural movement is undoubtedly Mexico's greatest contribution to contemporary art and its legacy can be seen in every city in the country., and throughout the world.

Mexico Virgin Lady of Guadalupe Painting Jim Rogers global travel adventure Mexican Catholic church
Duration : 91 Seconds

Jim Rogers around the world - 150 Countries, three years and 150000 miles! Our Lady of Guadalupe, a painting also called the Virgin of Guadalupe (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe or Virgen de Guadalupe) is a 16th century Roman Catholic icon from Mexico representing a Marian apparition. It is perhaps Mexico's most popular religious and cultural image. Our Lady of Guadalupe's feast day is celebrated on 12 December, commemorating the traditional account of her appearances to Saint Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City from 9 through 12 December 1531. The Virgin of Guadalupe is a symbol of significant importance to Mexican Catholics. It is considered as a representation of the "Patroness of the Americas" and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City is the second most visited Roman Catholic shrine in the world. The Virgin of Guadalupe has also symbolized the rebellious side of the Mexican nation in its civil wars since the Mexican War of Independence. Miguel Hidalgo, Emiliano Zapata and Subcomandante Marcos's armies traveled underneath Guadalupan flags, and Our Lady of Guadalupe is generally recognized as a symbol of Mexicans. Alfredo Noyola, Photorealist Painter
Duration : 345 Seconds

A type of photo layout technique is the approach that Alfredo Noyola takes to his paintings. Stumbling upon this format out of his desire to create big format photography--he now takes photos of his subjects and translates them into wall size paintings of every day objects taken out of context. Artist hails from Mexico's most metropolitan city--Monterrey.

Street Painting Puerto Vallarta Mexico
Duration : 394 Seconds

January 2010 - I coordinated a Street Painting trip to Bucerias Mexico, in the Puerto Vallarta Bay. I took Lorelle Miller and Julio Jimenez from LA to street paint, and together we painted the downtown of Bucerias with Mexican Artist Tony Collantez. The festival and event was the brain child of Christy Buguesse an incredible mosaic artist (who came from my home town of Culver City!) and made her home in Bucerias in the mid 1990's. It is a wonderful community with mostly Canadian Snowbirds taking refuge from the cold, with winter homes in Bucerias. We had an incredible time. Thank you to our hostess Christy, and the warm and wonderful community of Bucerias. To our hosts Mark and Jan for letting us stay in the most unbelievable accommodations (their furniture store!) and many friends like Bob and Ann, Susan and Jim, who befriended us, during our stay and made us feel most welcome. While we were there, we were fortunate to be able to hold a workshop for local youth in conjunction with the area non profit group PEACE it was an incredibly worthwhile endeavor for everyone involved.

Cortez Florida Paintings
Duration : 107 Seconds

see the quaint fishing village of Cortez, Florida through the eyes of Tonawanda NY born painter Chuck Miano. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Visiting Cortez is like going back in time. Nestled on the east coast of Florida off the Gulf of Mexico in the Tampa Bay, not far from Bradenton, lies this tiny fishing village with quaint cottages, old Florada landscaping, Anna Maria Island and lots of earthy charm. Old Florida lovers walk the dense growth narrow streets channeling to the waters edge where the pelicans, egrets, terns, gulls, herons and birds of every variety come to feed along with the tourists who sit on the dock munching their favorite seafood dishes at the local seaside restaurants like the Starfish Market at the end of 123rd Street. (Try the smoked mullet).
