80% of the Mexican state of Tabasco is underwater. Streets have become canals. Pastureland has become floodplains. Farmland has become island. In the midst of this unprecedented disaster, Operation Blessing has teamed up with Centro Cristiano, one of the largest churches in Villahermosa. Many Mexican Americans & Chicanos celebrate this history along with many other Americans, but few know the true story behind the special date in 1862. In 1862, France invaded Mexico in an effort to force all Taco Bells into serving croissants and crepes. They also wanted Mexican citizens to wear berets instead of sombreros. President Pancho Villa famously said "no" and thus began the war. The Mexican Army was led by The Most Interesting Man in the World. After several weeks of fighting, the Mexicans hopped in their lowriders and overpowered the French soldiers mounted on their horses. General Pancho Villa then unleashed his secret weapon, an immense army of Chihuahuas. They gnawed at the feet of French Soldiers, forcing them to surrender and give up their secret recipe for Belgian Waffles. They celebrated by drinking Coronas and eating Chalupas. Today the spirit of Cinco De Mayo is upheld in the lucha libre mathces, where luchadores wear the traditional uniform of the 19th century Mexican military. In addition, the Looney Tunes character Speedy Gonzalez is named after famous Mexican freedom fighter Espidio Gonzalez, the fastest army recruit in Mexican history. Okay,I made this video when I was like 12, now I'm almost 16 y/o and when I looked back at this video I found a lot of grammatical errors like "most biggest" etc. Please understand that I was still in ELD classes then. But I still do, up to this day reply to comments from time to time. Even though it's been more than 2 years since I made this video. I'm sure there was some inaccurate information here, just a few things though so don't worry. This is a school project I made a long time ago. But I was the one who chose this topic. :D I hope most of the viewers will find this interesting. This is basically Christopher Columbus' dream of a trade between Asia to Americas and Europe. He died not knowing "Asia - India" is actually America. So yeah, this is it. Rather than trade between Mexico and Philippines, it's more of all of Asia trading (Japan, China, India, Malaysia..etc.). We will follow the zapatist march leading to Mexico, through 3000 km, and we will see a wide range of faces, fears, convictions and hopes arise from this historical event. Striking for citizenship, for the recognition of their rights and cultures by the Constitution, these populations teach us that true democracy is first of all the experience of sharing words. Marcos diferent speeches will appear in the film and will transmit a universal message : the right to live in acordance with its own identity and its own differences. Zapatism is a universal movement because its anger is recognisable by people all around the world. It is adressed against neo-liberalism, economic pressures in our daily life, and shrinking of public space. Words regained is the portrait of a country writing its own history.
