Living Heritage - Mexico: The Days of the Dead
Duration : 336 Seconds

DVD of 43 min (German) and 52 min (English) version available on www.filmsortiment.de Living Heritage focuses on peoples whose cultures are threatened. It was developed in cooperation with the "Länder-Menschen-Abenteuer"-department of German TV-station SWR, ARTE and the UNESCO. Peoples originating from very different cultures with their completely unique traditions provide a perfect basis for a series of documentary films. Myths passed on by oral tradition are just as endangered as ancient medical and natural knowledge. In these cultures there are old people who understand the knowledge and potential of their cultures and who want to pass it on to the young generation. For the chief characters of the series there resulted inevitably a dramaturgically interesting contrast between teacher and pupil and respectively between young and old. The stories we tell are about the learned and the learners. Therefore the central theme of each film is the imparting of knowledge.

Lotto / Loteria in Texas
Duration : 310 Seconds

Many states in the USA sell Lottery and/or Lotto tickets. Texas being one of those states sells both. One lotto ticket on sail in Texas is one titled: "Loteria." Loteria in Spanish means Lotto. Nothing wrong with naming a lotto game Loteria, as that is good marketing and capitalism. Texas is a border state and once part of Mexico, resulting in a large portion of the population with a Mexican heritage. Back to the Loteria lotto: To win one must scratch off that gray matter and reveal a "bean," with the beans being in a row to win. Beans? "Beaner" is an insult directed towards Mexicans. Rather confident the Texas Lottery Commission meant no offense to Texans with a Mexican heritage. What is surprising is no outcry about the name of the game. The USA is riddled with political correctness and diversity purposely on the march looking to be offended. It is refreshing here to see the political correct thugs and diversity commissars have not been able to rile up those in Texas with a Mexican heritage. Seems like their attempt to Balkanize the USA is not working in Texas. Offended by the USA flag in the USA on Cinco de Mayo
Duration : 291 Seconds

May 5th, is celebrated as a day of celebration of when the Mexican army defeated the French army in 1862 in the Mexican state of Puebla. The day is known as Cinco de Mayo and celebrated as a Mexican holiday in the USA and in the state of Puebla in Mexico. May 5th USA, Live Oak High School, Morgan Hill, about 70 miles southeast of San Francisco, California: Four students wore attire with the flag of the United States of America, Old Glory. Some students with a Mexican heritage complained to the school stating the wear of the American flag on Cinco de Mayo was offensive and incendiary. Did the Mexican army defeat the French army in 1862 or was it the United States army? School officials afflicted with political correctness ordered the students to either remove the offensive attire, turn it inside out or go home. The students elected to go home. Since then the School District stated Live Oak High School was in error and advised students they may wear attire with the United States flag anytime. Yeah right, after the fact. The students with the Mexican heritage who complained about the American flag were victims of political correctness, and diversity. Diversity in American public schools preached the identity is not to the nation, but to one's heritage first. Basically Balkanizing the USA to weaken the nation's unity. As Dr. Michael Savage would say, "liberalism is a mental disorder." Cinco de Mayo Live Oak High School Morgan Hill California San Francisco diversity melting ...

MEXICO'S TOP 3: SAUL 'CANELO' ALVAREZ, GIOVANNI SEGURA, & JUAN JOSE MONTES
Duration : 221 Seconds

TWITTER: bit.ly FACEBOOK BOXING COMMUNITY: on.fb.me Once a dominate force in boxing with such major names as Chavez, Carbajal, Gonzales, Barrera, and Morales. Mexican boxing in the past year has lost it's grip of it's boxing supremecy. In the wake of the land slide victory of Manny 'Pac-Man' Pacquiao over 'The Golden Boy' Oscar De La Hoya in 2008, even Mexican American boxing is no longer what it used to be. This past year we saw many of Mexico's sons beaten, beaten up, and defeated. Begining in January with the total destruction of Antonio Margarito in front of a sold out Staples Center in Los Angeles by future hall of famer Shane Mosley. Other notable losses by Mexican or boxers of Mexican heritage this year include Jorge Arce, Alfredo Angulo, Chris Arreola, Edgar Sosa, Victor Ortiz, Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Diaz, Ulises Solis, and Juan Manuel Marquez. It begs the question: Is Mexican boxing dead? Well inbetween the KO'd pile of Mexican boxers THREE young athletes amerged. All three from distinct parts of the country of Mexico, all three very young, all three with the Mexican heart, and fighting spirit that once send chills down their opponents spine's. And with one who at the tender age of 19 is already being called the next 'Chazez'. These are the Three Mexican boxers to follow in 2010. Saul has recently signed with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, and is scheduled to fight on the Mayweather vs Mosley or Marquez vs Khan undercard.

Traditional Mexican cuisine - ancestral, ongoing community culture, the Michoacán paradigm
Duration : 593 Seconds

UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2010 URL: www.unesco.org Description: Traditional Mexican cuisine is a comprehensive cultural model comprising farming, ritual practices, age-old skills, culinary techniques and ancestral community customs and manners. It is made possible by collective participation in the entire traditional food chain: from planting and harvesting to cooking and eating. The basis of the system is founded on corn, beans and chili; unique farming methods such as milpas (rotating swidden fields of corn and other crops) and chinampas (man-made farming islets in lake areas); cooking processes such as nixtamalization (lime-hulling maize, which increases its nutritional value); and singular utensils including grinding stones and stone mortars. Native ingredients such as varieties of tomatoes, squashes, avocados, cocoa and vanilla augment the basic staples. Mexican cuisine is elaborate and symbol-laden, with everyday tortillas and tamales, both made of corn, forming an integral part of Day of the Dead offerings. Collectives of female cooks and other practitioners devoted to raising crops and traditional cuisine are found in the State of Michoacán and across Mexico. Their knowledge and techniques express community identity, reinforce social bonds, and build stronger local, regional and national identities. Those efforts in Michoacán also underline the importance of traditional cuisine as a means of sustainable ...
