BEIJING CELEBRATES THE LIFE OF ARTIST FRIDA KAHLO.......
Duration : 262 Seconds

MEXICAN EMBASSY IN BEIJING CELEBRATES 'DAY OF THE DEAD'.......... Mexican Embassy in Beijing celebrates the Day of the Dead in memory of great Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. The Mexican Embassy in Beijing celebrated the Day of the Dead on November 2. The Day of the Dead, one of the most widely known Mexican festivals, appeals to many foreigners. The holiday is celebrated throughout Mexico and in Mexican communities around the world on November 1-2. The festival reflects the Mexican philosophy regarding death. Like people everywhere, Mexicans fear death, but they also mock it, tease it, dance with it and create art around it. The origins of the Day of the Dead stretch into the distant past of both Europe and Mexico. More than 500 years ago, when Spanish colonists landed in what is now Mexico, they encountered natives engaged in a ritual that seemed to mock death. Indigenous people had been practicing the ritual for at least 3000 years, and it has remained relevant in modern times.

Dia de Muertos, Day of the Dead Festival
Duration : 230 Seconds

From the www.VideoSource.com Global Village Travel Guide DVD's http (limited quantities) Mexico stock footage: www.videosource.com Transcript One of Mexico's most intriguing celebrations is the Dia de Muertos or Day of the Dead when Mexicans revive a tradition as ancient as it is curious. Each year, they believe, the deceased are allowed to visit their loved ones who are still in this life. The festivities begin with a parade for the children. Their costumes include the bride of death, and all her friends. Each household creates an altar with an offering for their dead relatives and friends. The altars always include flowers, and the most delicious foods. Chocolate, the special "pan de muerto", or bread of the dead, mangoes, papayas, and even beer and mezcal are there to tantalize. The glowing votive candles and tasty chocolate figurines sugar skulls and the characteristic aroma of burning Copal incense all contribute to the special feeling that profoundly affects everyone present and allegedly those absent as well. Day of the Dead celebrations are sure to include music, dancing in the street and theatrical performances. At night the festivities culminate when the zocalo is illuminated by uniquely Mexican firework displays. Giant pinwheels, flaming towers and waterfalls of fire light the night and send thrills through the crowd. The Dia de Muertos isn't a somber occasion because the Mexican has a firm belief in the immortality of the soul. This holiday welcomes death as ...
