Mauritius lies in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, approximately 3000 kilometres off the east coast of Africa. The population of Mauritius is just over 1 million and consists of Muslims, Hindus, Chinese, Creoles and Europeans creating a colourful and harmonious blend of cultures. The island is a warm and welcoming paradise with its average daily temperature at 25°c and rarely under 13°c at night. The sunny season is to be enjoyed all year round with highest temperatures from November to April. Apart from the south coast, Mauritius is surrounded by coral reefs making it an enticing playground for divers and water sports enthusiasts alike. Who should go to Mauritius? In our opinion everybody. That is of course if you enjoy sun, sea, sand, relaxation, excellent & diverse cuisine, beautiful scenery, a first class hotel set within exquisite surroundings and friendly welcoming smiles. Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius. It is a port on the Indian Ocean, and the nation's largest city and main port. Together with Réunion and Rodrigues, Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands. This archipelago was formed in a series of undersea volcanic eruptions, as the African plate drifted over the Réunion hotspot. Mauritius and Rodrigues were formed 8-10 million years ago. They are no longer volcanically active, and the hotspot now rests under Réunion. The island of Mauritius itself is formed around a central plateau, with its highest peak in the southwest, Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire at 828 metres (2717 ft). Around the plateau, the original crater can still be distinguished from several mountains.
