My mind went to the day the Mauritania passed on its maiden voyage in 1907 and I thought of this. There is a very famous painting of the ship as it passes this point painted from South Shields and offering a view of North Shields then which from a local history point of view is very valid. The Pleiades Spirit is 200m long and 32m wide whereas the Mauretania was 240.8m long and 26.8m wide. Therefore this impressive ship sailing out of the Tyne is even smaller than the Mauretania was on that day 104 years ago when it sailed out! Ruinas romanas de Volubilis Las ruinas romanas de Volubilis son un lugar espectacular en el que puedes cmprobar la huella del Imperio Romano y que todavía perdura en el país y que se encuentra en una zona de aproximadamente 20 hectáreas que se encuentra a 30 kilómetros de la ciudad de Meknes. Perteneciente a Marruecos, Volubilis es una ciudad en continuo crecimiento y que se encuentra en la región conquistada por Mauritania. En ella puedes ver monumentos, una basílica, varios templos, diversos bustos de bronce y hasta un arco del triunfo. Las ruinas de Volubilis están en una pequeña meseta elevada y en el año 1997 fueron declaradas Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. Estas ruinas, y la ciudad en sí, son una clara muestra del poderío romano en lo que ahora es el corazón de Marruecos. Los restos de los diversos palacios conservan aún ruinas con enormes piscinas, mosaicos, termas de vapor o enormes columnas. The largest of the approximately three-dozen native groups are the Quechuas (2.5 million), Aymaras (2 million), then Chiquitano (180000), and Guaraní (125000). So the full Amerindian population is at 55% and the remaining 30% is Mestizo (mixed Amerindian and European) and around 15% are Whites. Bolivian culture has been heavily influenced by the Quechua, the Aymara, as well as by the popular cultures of Latin America as a whole.
