| Mauritania - Nouakchott - Travel - Jim Rogers World Adventure Duration : 140 Seconds Leading economic expert Jim Rogers traveled to 150 countries over 150000 miles in three years - follow his adventures here on FentonReport. In this video Jim and Paige visit Nouakchott in Mauritania. Copyright Jim Rogers - provided as a special contribution to The Fenton Report. www.fentonreport.com Nouakchott is the capital and by far the largest city of Mauritania. It is one of the largest cities in the Sahara. The city is the administrative and economic centre of Mauritania. Located on the Atlantic coast of the Sahara, it lies on the west coast, on the Atlantic Ocean, although with the exception of Nouakchott Wharf and a deep water port, the coastal strip is mostly left empty and allowed to flood. Due to the rapid build-up, the city is quite spread out, with few tall buildings. It also often acts as an interface between urban Mauritanians and their nomadic fellow citizens. Nouakchott is built around a large tree-lined street, Avenue Abdel Nasir, which runs northeast through the city center from the airport. Other major streets are named (in French) for notable Mauritanian figures, or international personages of the 1960s Avenue de Gaulle, Avenue Kennedy, and Avenue Lumumba, for example. Nouakchott is a vital city to Mauritania because of imports and exports, particularly of certain minerals and crops. Nouakchott also has 8 oil blocks off the coast to use. www.mutualfundcenter.com http www.atlanticfinancial.com www.atlanticfinancial.com www.atlanticfinancial.com Tags :Mauritania, Islamic, Republic, Muslim, Sacrifice, Lamb, Capital, Sahara, Arab, Arabic, city, map, vacation, day, guide, tour, international, world, airline, itinerary, ideas, tips, company, resorts, holiday, discovery, hotel, trip, advisor, best, time, agent, agencies, travels, resort, channel, adventure, adventures, vacations, money, manager, investments, investment, economy, economist, jim, rogers

In this video Jim and Paige wait for a military convoy in Dakhla in the west Sahara. Copyright Jim Rogers - provided as a special contribution to The Fenton Report. www.fentonreport.com Dakhla (Dajla), or ad-Dakhla (formerly Villa Cisneros), is a city in the Morocco-administered Western Sahara with about 67468 inhabitants. It is about 550 km south of El Aaiún on a narrow peninsula of the Atlantic Coast. It is the capital of the Oued Ed-Dahab-Lagouira region. Dakhla was founded as Villa Cisneros in 1502 by Spanish settlers during the expansion of their Empire. During the colonial period, the Spanish authorities made Dakhla the capital of the province of Río de Oro, one of the two regions of the Spanish Sahara. They built a military fortress and a modern Catholic church, both of which remain points of interest for visitors to the city. A prison camp also existed here during the Spanish Civil War, at which writers such as Pedro García Cabrera were imprisoned. During the 1960s, the Francoist dictatorship also built here one of the three paved airports in Western Sahara (IATA Code VIL). Between 1975 and 1979, Dakhla was the province capital of the Mauritanian province of Tiris al-Gharbiyya, consisting of its annexed portion of Western Sahara. The main economic activity of the city is fishing. In the area south of Tindouf, Algeria, there is ... | | HOME Making-Of : Mauritania Duration : 110 Seconds For trade, humans overcame numerous obstacles--seas, deserts and mountains. First with rudimentary and then increasingly evolved means. By taming animals such as donkeys, horses and camels, humans were able to travel vast distances. When muscle power was no longer enough, oil and other types of fossil energy sources took over to fuel trains, trucks, cargo ships and airplanes that carry merchandise in ever larger quantities from one side of the globe to the other. www.home-2009.com Tags :home, yann, arthus-bertrand, luc, besson, europacorp, françois-henri, pinault, ppr, planet, earth, protection, environment, save, humanity, pollution, consumption, change, event
