Music: Silent Heart ~ Beyond Time (2010) Composer: Karunesh en.wikipedia.org KARUNESH (Hindi: करुणेश, "God of compassion"; born Bruno Reuter in 1956) is a German-born New Age and ambient musician. His music has strong Asian and Indian influences prevalent throughout, with liberal use of Indian instruments, such as the sitar. Having sold 450000 albums, Karunesh is one of the best-known New Age artists. Karunesh was born in Cologne, Germany in 1956. Although he had been drawn to music as a child and played in bands as a teenager, he chose to study graphic design as a career. However, after attaining his degree, Karunesh was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. His brush with death prompted him to choose music as a career instead of graphic design. He rethought his life and embarked on a spiritual journey of sorts, traveling in 1979 to India, where he met Osho in his ashram in Pune. He became initiated and took on a new spiritual name, Karunesh, a Sanskrit name meaning "master of compassion". Back in Germany, Karunesh lived in the Rajneesh commune of Hamburg for five years. Here he could develop his musical creativity in a spiritual surrounding. He came in contact with many musicians from all over the world and developed an ability to weave different styles and feelings from different cultures together in a living symbiosis, creating a music that is both spiritual and danceable. Shaykh Hassan Cisse (1945-2008) was the preeminent spokesmen of the Tariqa Tijaniyya in recent times. He was an accomplished Islamic scholar, emerging from a long and vibrant legacy of Islamic learning in West Africa. The grandson and spiritual heir of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse, he was designated by Shaykh Ibrahim as Imam of the Jamaat Nasr al-Ilm (Community of Helping Knowledge), the followers of Shaykh Ibrahim who are historically the largest single Muslim movement in twentieth-century West Africa. Shaykh Hassan was a consummate scholar and spiritual guide. He received a complete training in the traditional Islamic sciences: the Quran and its exegesis (tafsir), Prophetic traditions (hadith) and history (seerah), jurisprudence and its sources (fiqh and usul), literature (adab), poetry, grammar and Sufism (tasawwuf ). After memorizing the Quran at a young age in Mauritania, he was educated mostly in Senegal under the personal supervision of Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse, who had gathered in Kaolack, Senegal, some of the most renowned scholars from Senegal, Mauritania, Nigeria, and beyond. These included Shaykh Hassans own father, Sidi Ali Cisse, and his mother, Sayyida Fatima Zahra Niasse. The Cisse lineage, originally Mande speakers, is one of the most ancient scholarly groups in West Africa, tracing its conversion to Islam back 1000 years to Kumbe Saleh, one of the great cities of West Africas proud history. He left the profession in order to dedicate himself entirely to art. Biographical Mário Lúcio was born in Tarrafal, on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. In 1984 he obtained a scholarship from the Cuban government to study Law at the University of Havana, from which he graduated in 1990. He returned to Cape Verde and practiced as an independent lawyer. He was a Deputy in the Cape Verdean parliament from 1996 to 2001. He served as Adviser to the Minister of Culture (1992) and was recently named Cultural Ambassador of Cape Verde... Music Mário Lúcio Sousa is founder and leader of the musical group Simentera, His conceptions earned him an invitation from the Cape Verdean government to serve as Adviser to the Commissioner for Expo/92 and author of Cape Verde's musical project for the 92 Seville Expo and the 98 Lisbon Expo.
