| Arab / Muslim Literature on black people And "The Colonial Imaginary" Duration : 244 Seconds "Unnatural and ever prejudicial Constructions of Race and 'Colonial Hierarchies by British observers in 19th century Zanzibar" cua.wrlc.org Electronic page 13 The author describes stereotypes as things "that needs no proof, [but the believer acts as if it] can never, in discourse, be proved. page 14 "....We always already know that blacks are licentious, Asiatics duplicitous The stereotype becomes an element of unproven prior knowledge that needs no proof of its veracity for its employment as explanation for racialized difference." "Translation and the Colonial Imaginary: Ibn Khaldun Orientalist", by Abdelmajid Hannoum © 2003 Wesleyan University. www.jstor.org "Despite the increasing interest in translation in the last two decades, there has been no investigation of the translation of historiography and its transformation from one language to another. This article takes as a case study the translation into French of Ibn Khaldûn, the fourteenth-century North African historian. It considers specifically the translation done by William de Slane in the context of the colonization of Algeria. The Histoire des Berbères, the French narrative of Ibn Khaldûn that relates to the history of Arabs and Berbers in the Maghreb, has become since then the source of French knowledge of North Africa. It is upon that French narrative that colonial and post-colonial historians have constructed their knowledge of North Africa, of Arabs, and of Berbers. The article shows how a portion of the ... | | Chori Chori (1956) Man Bhavan Keh Ghar Jayeh Gori ,Bani Rahe Yeh Pyar Ki Jodi !Hamein Na Bhulanah ! Duration : 829 Seconds Name The term "Romance" comes from the Vulgar Latin adverb romanice, derived from Romanicus: for instance, in the expression romanice loqui, "to speak in Roman" (that is, the Latin vernacular), contrasted with latine loqui, "to speak in Latin" (Medieval Latin, the conservative version of the language used in writing and formal contexts or as a lingua franca), and with barbarice loqui, "to speak in Barbarian" (the non-Latin languages of the peoples that conquered the Roman Empire).[1] From this adverb the noun romance originated, which applied initially to anything written romanice, or "in the Roman vernacular". The word romance with the modern sense of romance novel or love affair has the same origin. In the medieval literature of Western Europe, serious writing was usually in Latin, while popular tales, often focusing on love, were composed in the vernacular and came to be called "romances". The following is a list of the Sub-Saharan African countries where French or African French is spoken.[2][3] Benin, French language in Benin Burundi, French language in Burundi Burkina Faso, French language in Burkina-Faso Central African Republic, French language in Central Africa Chad, French language in Chad Cameroon, French language in Cameroon Côte d'Ivoire, French language in Cote de Ivoire Democratic Republic of the Congo, French language in Democratic Congo Republic of the Congo, French language in the Republic of Congo Djibouti, French language in Djibouti Gabon, French ... | | That dog gone Dogon Myth Duration : 570 Seconds The Dogon are an ethnic group located mainly in the administrative districts of Bandiagara and Douentza in Mali, West Africa. The precise origin of the Dogon, like those of many other ancient cultures, is undetermined. Their civilization emerged, in much the same manner as ancient Sumer, both sharing tales of their creation by gods who came from the sky in space ships, who allegedly will return one day. The early histories are informed by oral traditions that differ according to the Dogon clan being consulted and archaeological excavation much more of which needs to be conducted. Because of these inexact and incomplete sources, there are a number of different versions of the Dogon's origin myths as well as differing accounts of how they got from their ancestral homelands to the Bandiagara region. The people call themselves 'Dogon' or 'Dogom', but in the older literature they are most often called 'Habe', a Fulbe word meaning 'stranger' or 'pagan'. Certain theories suggest the tribe to be of ancient Egyptian descent - the Dogon next migrating to the region now called Libya, then moving on to somewhere in the regions of Guinea or Mauritania. Around 1490 AD, fleeing invaders and/or drought, they migrated to the Bandiagara cliffs of central Mali. Carbon-14 dating techniques used on excavated remains found in the cliffs indicate that there were inhabitants in the region before the arrival of the Dogon. They were the Toloy culture of the 3rd to 2nd centuries BC, and the Tellem ... Tags :The, Dogon

The text is very small, 656 words altogether, but the author made of it an entire book. It is noteworthy that with this text starts the History of Morocco and the Western Coast of Africa down to Sierra Leone, which was the furthermost point reached by the maritime expedition of King Hanno, and described by the Carthaginian royal scribes. Through further epigraphic evidence, we have been able to date King Hanno at the middle of the 5th century BCE. Consequently, the Periplus (circumnavigation) of Hanno consists in the oldest historical reference to Western Africa in the World Literature. The book starts with a Preface about the ancient travelers and navigators; in that part the author describes how people perceived the World in the Antiquity, how they conceived the Earth as flat surface, usually mythologized at its confines, and what meant for the Mediterranean navigators the eventuality of a faraway trip.
