| | Malta - Culture - Travel Documentary Duration : 93 Seconds Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean Sea (in its eastern basin), some 93 km south of the Italian island of Sicily across the Malta Channel; east of Tunisia and north of Libya in Africa. Only the three largest islands Malta Island (Malta), Gozo (Għawdex), and Comino (Kemmuna) are inhabited. The smaller islands, such as Filfla, Cominotto and the Islands of St. Paul are uninhabited. Numerous bays along the indented coastline of the islands provide good harbours. The archipelago itself lies on the edge of the African tectonic plate, as it borders with the Eurasian plate. The landscape is characterised by low hills with terraced fields. The highest point is at Ta' Dmejrek on Malta Island at 253 metres (830 ft) near Dingli. Although there are some small rivers at times of high rainfall, there are no permanent rivers or lakes on Malta. However, some watercourses are found around the island that have fresh water running all year round. Such places are Baħrija, l-Intaħleb and San Martin. Running water in Gozo is found at Lunzjata Valley. Tags :broadbandtv, bbtv, travel, tourist, tourism, vacation, europe, activities, ancient, historical, trip, sight, sightseeing, hot, amazing

| | Malta: The Mediterranean's best kept secret Duration : 69 Seconds Malta is a small island state, with a population of around 400000. The country's official languages are Maltese and also English, which is a language most Maltese speak as a result of a period of British rule that ended in 1964. The Maltese are known as friendly (but temperamental) people and are renowned for their hospitality. The vast majority of the Maltese are Catholic and the Church plays an important role in Maltese culture. Being one of the latest additions to the European Union, Malta is quickly developing into a top tourist resort and is competing with other South-European destinations for a larger share of tourists who seek out a holiday in the Mediterranean. Tourism is one of the main pillars of the Maltese economy and the island nation depends heavily on this sector. While investments are made to promote Malta in the rest of Europe, no single advertising slogan can bring across the benefit Malta offers over other Mediterranean destinations. Accommodation: Plenty of choice So what benefits are we talking about here? For starters, the various types of accommodation offered in Malta are suitable for different budgets and holiday experiences. There's an abundance of 3- and 4-star hotels that are ideal for family holidays, being of good quality at very reasonable package prices. For travellers who prefer to enjoy luxury there are several high-class hotels available in Malta, with global appeal, such as Malta's Hilton hotel and the Radisson hotels in St. Julian's ... | | MALTA: Birkirkara - Feast of St Helena 2009 Duration : 546 Seconds FEAST OF ST HELENA, BIRKIRKARA, MALTA Birkirkara is one of the oldest towns/villages in Malta. It was already a parish in 1436 and someone found out that it was established as a parish in 1402. Work on the present Church began in 1727. Thus far the identity of its architect is still a matter of debate among architectural historians. It's majestic facade, is one of the most beautiful we have in Malta. St Helena was the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great and she is credited with finding the True Cross of Christ. She died in the year 330 AD. The statue of St Helena was carved in wood by Salvu Psaila and was donated to the church by the local patriot Vincenzo Borg, who rose to fame by his leadership during the two-year blockade of the French after the 1798 insurrection. The statue is solemnly carried in procession twice a year: on the third of May in commemoration of the finding of the True Cross by the Empress Saint Helena and on her feast-day, one Sunday after the liturgical feast of 18th of August. This is the only procession in Malta that is held on a morning. The large bell found in the left hand side belfry tower is Malta's largest church bell and the third largest in the world. The parish has two band clubs: Banda Duke of Connaught's Own which was established in 1865 and Għaqda Mużikali Sant'Elena, established in 1919. The background music features segments of the two hymns in honor of St Helena and are played by the two band clubs. The one used by The Duke of ...
