| ARCHAEOLOGY Duration : 347 Seconds The archaeological treasures of Malta are famous the world over. For three millennia, from around 5200 BC, the archipelago was home to a unique, temple-building civilisation. Malta and Gozos temples are thought to be the oldest free-standing buildings known to man. Tags :archaeology, temples, Malta, Hagar, Qim, Mnajdra, Tarxien, Ggantija
| | Malta: Land of Forgotten Temples (Trailer) Duration : 139 Seconds In May 2011, at the invitation of the Malta Tourism Authority, we toured the small island nation of Malta and shot footage for a special production about the ancient temple sites there. Our production team, comprising Videographer and Director Teal Greyhavens, Producer Rick Pettigrew, and Production Coordinator Anies Hassan, visited the islands of Malta and Gozo and captured images of the spectacular prehistoric megalithic temples that were built between 3600 and 2500 BC, effectively before the megalithic stones of Stonehenge were raised and before the Egyptians built their pyramids. We were awestruck by the complexity and size of these structures, which are some of the oldest freestanding buildings in the world. The shooting conditions were excellent and the visual opportunities were outstanding. Local experts from Heritage Malta gave us some very attractive and competent interviews. The story of the temples is literally amazing, yet underappreciated around the world. Even though we did not have a lot of time to do our work, we came home with a large volume of super footage as raw material for a special segment on Malta for our monthly Video News from TAC program. We expect this segment to air in the latter half of 2011. Tags :Malta, Archaeology, Video News

| | Anchors Are Found From the Apostle Paul's Ship Near Malta Duration : 441 Seconds This is old news, but I wanted to upload this for Biblical and historical purposes. The 4 anchors were found off Malta (Acts 28:1), which are believed to be the same four anchors that were released into the sea (Acts 27:40), from the ship Paul was sailing on, that went through a destructive storm (Acts 27). The four anchors, which are the Malta Maritime Museum today, is evidence for the historical event that Paul the apostle, and the other 275 persons (Acts 27:37) went through, as mentioned in the Holy Bible. | | The Goddess Religion Part 1 of 3 Duration : 592 Seconds "The Goddess Religion". A tour of the ancient sites of Catal Huyuk, Knossos, Malta and the Ice Age caves, regarding the ancient and widespread religion of the Great Goddess, reaching into the Mystery Cults of the Greek-Roman world. My views on Marija Gimbutas theories on Old Europe is very well illustrated in this article by Erik Rodenborg, of which I here present a summary in English: www.facebook.com I think that Gimbutas most important contribution was pointing out the amazing degree of similarity and continuity in religious symbolism across great parts of Europe - in itself interesting - a Stone Age symbolism that survived into the religions of Bronze Age Crete and Ancient Mystery Cults. I think that the use of symbolism may point to an actual religious tradition that, just like Christian symbols, were used by many different cultures that were connected through trade routes (like Gimbutas suggested). I focus, however, entirely on particular cultures and look at how the symbology in each are similar. Sources: the museum in Ankara and at the site of Catal Höyuk, reading: J.Mellaart and I.Hodder - both conclude that this was a peaceful and rather egalitarian society seemingly focused on art (religious)-Mellaart opts for a goddess religion, Hodder is more cautious about the interpretations of the female figurines and paintings of women in positions of authority. | | malta Duration : 326 Seconds The Hypogeum is amazing. www.youtube.com If you are interested in Neolithic Malta then it is definitely a must because it is where you will get the most historical information (outside of the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta), and you actually get to go underground into the tombs, unlike the ruins found above ground. The outdoor sites, like Tarxien, don't offer much of a guide, if any at all, on what you are actually looking at. It's dark and damp, and really like nothing I've ever see before. They light it as you move around, and as the audio guide changes, to highlight what it is telling you about. Shuffling round the small spaces with a group of strangers does detract somewhat from the atmosphere, but I would personally still recommend it as a unique experience. I couldn't quite believe I was standing in such an ancient place, built by people we don't fully understand, who had barely any tools and yet managed to create a decorated temple/tomb that was the resting place for some 7000 people. People whose remains have since been mysteriously lost - one of the fascinating facts I learned from the tour guide at the Museum of Archaeology (which I would recommend as the first stop before going to the actual sites). One of the most famous underground rooms was actually created as a single carving, straight out of the rock, and yet is done in such a way as to give it perspective and the appearance of having been constructed from separate slabs of rock like the temples above ... | | Archaeological remains at Ta' Lambert in Gozo lie abandoned in illegal waste landfill Duration : 305 Seconds Thursday 5th March 2009 AD - Archaeological remains in the Gozo countryside lie abandoned in stanching discarded waste. During a site visit at Ta Lambert, next to the Gozo Heliport, Dr Arnold Cassola, Chairperson for Alternattiva Demokratika (AD), accompanied by other Gozo Regional Committee members of the Green Party in Gozo, remarked, that it seems that either the Authorities are turning a blind eye to certain individuals who are above the law, or, that the Government, contrary to its much-vaunted eco-Gozo campaign, is hell-bent to irreparably harm the long term sustainability of Gozo as a quality tourist destination. The Ta Lambert site, adjacent to the defunct Gozo Heliport in Xewkija, is now being turned into a bulky refuse area, where waste is being discarded by heavy vehicles that could easily be monitored and apprehended. On the one hand Government attempts to brand itself as being environmentally conscious, and then here at Ta Lambert we have visual proof of Governments failure with regards to waste management, commented Dr Cassola. Prof Cassola also remarked that it is futile for the Prime Minister to declare that his government will adopt Alternattiva Demokratikas green policies to turn Gozo into an ecological island. The Nationalist Party either did not fully comprehend ADs green policies, or failed to weigh up the consequences of tourist complaints for the foul smells and country eyesores in areas like Ta Lambert in Xewkija. Tourists are encouraged to take ...
